| Turning Our Commitment into Action September 30 is Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation which honors residential school survivors, remembers the children who never returned home, and recognizes the tragic, multi-generational legacy of Canada's residential school system. This movement extends to every child of all races, beliefs, identity and Gender. As part of the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s (SHA's) commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and CARES values, we know that our commitment is not just once a year; it is a choice that is honoured through our words and actions every day. To continue to honour our commitment, we are excited to announce the following initiatives for September that turn our commitment into action: - It Starts with Me: Inspired by the First Nations Health Authority of British Columbia, this campaign invites SHA employees and physicians to strengthen their personal and professional commitment to Truth and Reconciliation by taking a pledge to support meaningful change in their daily work and interactions.
- Reconciliation Knowledge to Practice Guide: This online resource helps staff and leaders translate reconciliation into action by providing practical guidance, tools, and approaches that can be applied in everyday workplace settings.
- Advancing Our Commitment Action Plan for Truth and Reconciliation: This action plan highlights the important steps being taken across the health system to advance equity, improve access to care, and strengthen culturally responsive services for patients, families, and communities.
- Online Anti-Racism Training: Expanded access to anti-racism education will support staff and physicians throughout the province in building awareness, understanding, and skills that contribute to more inclusive and equitable health care environments.
In addition to the initiatives above, a new section “Turning Our Commitment into Action” has been added to SHA Rounds and Leader Resources to better promote Truth and Reconciliation and First Nation and Métis Health updates, events and related content including team photo submissions for Orange Shirt Day. Thank you for your support in fostering culturally safe and responsive environments. We look forward to providing you more information on these initiatives that support you turning your commitment to Truth and Reconciliation into action. Together, we can create lasting change. Through learning, reflection, and action, each of us has a role to play in advancing reconciliation and fostering a health system where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported. It starts and continues with all of us. | SHA CARES - Living our Values | Residents, visitors and staff at Canora Gateway Lodge are being welcomed by a meaningful new addition to the home's front foyer. Earlier this year, the Yorkton Tribal Council gifted The Bison and the Sparrow, a striking artwork by Saskatchewan artist Darnell Tapequon, after learning the lodge was hoping to display Indigenous artwork created by local artists. The opportunity came about when Conjeevaram Venkata Parameshwaran, Nutrition and Food Services Specialist, shared the idea during a meeting with Chief Isabel O'Soup, who generously presented the piece. 🌐 View full CARES story | This summer, several long-term care homes in the Regina area hosted hydration-themed events aimed at promoting healthy hydration and raising awareness of its role in preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs) and reducing unnecessary testing and treatment. 🌐 View full CARES story | Turning Our Commitment into Action | It Starts with Me Inspired by First Nation Health Authority #ItStartsWithMe, this campaign provides the opportunity for Saskatchewan Health Authority employees and physicians to take the first step in advancing their commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Reconciliation is not a single action or initiative. It is ongoing, relationship-based work. To make our commitment real, it must be visible in our daily actions. Taking the pledge either online or by signing the poster below, acts as a first step for you to begin your journey both personally and professionally and reinforce your commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. 🌐 Take the pledge online 📄 It Starts with me - Pledge form | Show your commitment to Truth and Reconciliation with an SHA orange shirt Also known as Orange Shirt Day, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30 is a time to learn, reflect and show support for reconciliation. One way to participate is by wearing an orange shirt. Developed under the leadership of the First Nations and Métis Health team, the SHA Orange Shirt features artwork that honours First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures. It reflects our commitment to respectful, culturally-safe care and our shared journey toward reconciliation. Proceeds from every shirt sold will be donated to the Orange Shirt Society. 📄 How to register an account 🌐 Order now | Registered Social Workers Provincial Community of Practice: Truth and Reconciliation in Social Work Practice 📅September 24 🕑 2:30 p.m. 🌐 Register 📄 Poster Presenter: Carrie McCloy, Faculty member with the Indigenous Social Work Program at the First Nations University of Canada. This presentation will examine how colonial systems disrupted relationships with land, family, culture, and identity and will consider how social workers can support healing practices rooted in respect, responsibility, reciprocity, and connection. By appreciating the more-than-human world, we can explore reconciliation through ethical, relational, and land-based practices. 🌐 SharePoint: Registered Social Workers | Windows 11 Update – Week of September 8 SHA devices running Windows 11 will be updated to Version 25H2 between 2 and 5 a.m. at the following locations: September 8, 2026 - Cypress Hills
