April safety & enforcement focus
Traffic safety spotlight
Speed, aggressive driving & motorcycle season
Spring is here — and that means more vehicles, more motorcycles, and faster speeds on our roads. April's Alberta Traffic Safety Calendar focus is a reminder that speed and aggressive driving are leading causes of serious collisions in Alberta.
Speed kills. Even a small increase above the posted limit dramatically raises your stopping distance and collision severity. Slow down — especially in school zones, construction areas, and on mountain curves.
Motorcycle season is back. Watch for motorcycles at intersections, when merging, and when turning left. Motorcyclists: make yourself visible, wear your gear, and ride within your limits. Others often don't see you until it's too late.
Aggressive driving puts everyone at risk. Tailgating, cutting off other drivers, and reacting to frustration behind the wheel contributes to road rage incidents and collisions. If someone is driving aggressively around you, stay calm, stay back, and call 911 if you feel unsafe.
Give yourself extra time so you're not rushing. A few minutes isn't worth a lifetime of consequences.
Bylaw focus — wildlife interactions & pet waste
Spring draws wildlife closer to town and gets us all spending more time outside. Here are two reminders that help keep our community clean and safe.
Wildlife interactions
Crowsnest Pass is wild animal country. As snow recedes, bears, cougars, and other wildlife may move through residential areas.
Do not feed wildlife — intentionally or accidentally. Secure your garbage, compost, and pet food. Give wildlife space. Never approach or corner an animal. Keep dogs leashed — an off-leash dog near wildlife puts both the dog and the animal at risk. Report aggressive wildlife or concerning animal behaviour to Alberta Fish & Wildlife at (403) 562-3289.
Pet waste
It's everyone's responsibility to clean up after their pet — on trails, in parks, and in your neighbourhood. Pet waste is a health hazard, not just an eyesore. Bags and bins are available at several locations around the Pass.
Failure to clean up after your pet is a bylaw violation and may result in a fine.
