Black History Month

Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities.

The 2025 theme for Black History Month is “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations", reminds us that the stories of Black Canadians keep being written every day. The advocate pushing for racial equity, the entrepreneur building a thriving business, the artist using their voice to drive change – these contributions continue to shape Canada for the better.

Wildlife Alert: Coyotes

The Conservation Officer Service and the District of Squamish are advising the public to be aware and take precautions as coyotes enter their breeding season.

During this time of year, coyotes may follow or attempt to "escort" you (and your dog) away from their territory as they work to protect it. If this happens, follow these safety tips:

  • Stay calm and do not panic.
  • Keep your dog on a leash and close by. If you have a small dog or a child with you, pick them up.
  • Back away slowly while maintaining a safe distance. Do not run.
  • If the coyote approaches, shout and wave your hands to scare it away.

For wildlife sightings or encounters, please call the Conservation Officer Service 24-hour hotline at 1-877-952-7277.

Winter Parking Restrictions

Parking on select streets in Squamish is restricted to one side only until March 1, 2025. This ensures snow plows and emergency vehicles can safely navigate during winter conditions. The fine for impeding snow removal is $250.

For a list of affected streets and more details, visit squamish.ca/winter-parking.
