Dear BC Renal Community,
We are living in unprecedented times. None of us could have imagined the world as it is in this moment. The changes are so rapid, and we have come together collectively to battle this global pandemic.
Our kidney care community has risen to the challenge with compassion, self sacrifice and unwavering commitment. Each and every one of you has stepped up and out of your/our comfort zone - unit coordinators, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dietitians, ward aids, doctors and doctors in training, patient partners, medical and administrative leadership and the teams at BC Renal, including PROMIS and the Research Evaluation and Analytics teams.
We have an amazing network, capable of so much for so many. You have all been working harder, faster and together in a terrific way. It has not gone un-noticed. I cannot reach out to every one of you to say a truly heart felt thank you, but please know I wish I could.
Each one of you has a story, and each one of you has a life and world you are striving to keep safe, while working with our patients and their families. I would encourage you at this most transformative time in our lives, to share your stories with each other, to share your fears, your hopes, frustrations and successes. It will make us all stronger, and more human, and we will grow together.
Thank you for all you have done, are doing and will do. We are in uncharted territory, but together are moving forward towards the same goal.
Be well, be safe and keep practicing social distancing. We will get through this together.
I’d like to leave you with a quote I have found inspiring during difficult times:
“When you come to the edge of all the light you have, and must take a step into the darkness of the unknown, believe that one of two things will happen. Either there will be something solid for you to stand on – or you will be taught how to fly.” – Patrick Overton
