These bears are looking for food rewards, and this activity poses a significant public safety risk. The public is strongly advised to report dangerous human-wildlife conflicts to the BC Conservation Officer Service's RAPP hotline at 1-877-952-7277 as soon as possible. Early reporting allows for timely intervention and may help prevent an animal's behaviour from escalating into a serious public safety concern. | | In the meantime, residents can help reduce human-wildlife conflicts by securing our wildlife attractants, such as garbage and fruit trees, and by keeping the windows and doors of our homes and vehicles locked before we leave. By working together as a community, we can keep our neighbourhoods safe for everyone. The District is re-painting road lines as part of the District’s traffic calming program. The following week, a new crosswalk will be added, and the nearby bus stop location will be slightly adjusted. For the work, Highlands Way North’s yellow road centerline will be removed, and the east side bike lane will be widened and converted to a buffered multi-use lane. Parking on the west side, where available off the asphalt, will be maintained. The new crosswalk will link the Merrill Park access trail and transit stop to the multi-use lane. These adjustments will increase safety for pedestrians using the access trail and transit stop. | | Stage 1 Water Restrictions in Effect Water conservation helps to avoid or delay costly water system upgrades.
