Jump Start & Imagine Day Welcomes All New KIN Students

On Tuesday, September 3rd 2019, the School of Kinesiology welcomed 260 of our new KIN students to campus. Thank you for spending your first day of school with us! Here's to a great four years with you!

UBC KIN sends their sincere thanks to their 93 volunteers, including Jump Start leaders, Senior Orientation leaders, Orientation leaders, Bod Squad members, Active Kids, Body Works and Osborne student staff, PASS leaders, Peer Advisors, and members of the KUS. Thank you for helping us welcome over 260 of our new-to-KIN students to the KIN Community, and showing them what it means to have KIN spirit!

Kinesiology Transition Program Community Events Recap

On September 17th 2019, KTP team #401 hosted its first community event of the year, “Let’s Get KINvolved”! Over 100 new students came to see some of the great opportunities available to get involved on campus, including: Active Kids,  Body Works, KUS,  Kinesiology Mentorship Program,   UBC Recreation, Varsity Athletics,  and Research Labs, including the Fitness, Aging & Stress Lab (FAST) and Origins of Balance and Falls Cluster.

On September 19th 2019, KTP team #400 and UBC KIN staff hosted the first annual KTP 'Welcome Back' Pancake Breakfast, serving over 115 pancakes to a large contingent of hungry students! Thanks for coming out! It was a pleasure to connect with you and take this first step in bringing you into the KIN community.

Kinesiology Peer Academic Coaching Program (KPAC)

Learning Commons, 3rd Floor, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre

KPAC is a collaboration between the Kinesiology Undergraduate Society (KUS) and the School of Kinesiology, that offers free peer support to Kinesiology students in first and second year core courses. Join them for 1-on-1 academic coaching sessions, group study opportunities, exam preparation and study method workshops, and more!

Office hours are Mondays (12:00pm-3:00pm), and Tuesdays & Fridays (12:30pm-2:00pm).

Thank you! From Active Kids

A big thank you to all of the Active Kids student coaches and staff who attended the full-day training session on September 8th 2019. It was a busy day with Sport for Life’s Movement Preparation and the Canucks Autism teams joining us to deliver some great workshops and providing some great tips, strategies, and activities to get kids moving and having fun!

'Climate Comback' Documentary Launch and Panel

October 10th 2019, 5:30pm-7:30pm | BC Hydro Theatre, Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability

Do you care about climate change? Are you curious about how the power of storytelling and sport can mobilize community action?

In light of the 2018 Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change Report that says we have 11 years to tackle the climate crisis, collective action is necessary now more than ever. The UBC Climate Hub and the UBC KIN Centre for Sport and Sustainability are launching the documentary 'Climate Comeback'. Discover how UBC athletes are using their stories to mobilize climate action.

The panel features UBC KIN Associate Professor Dr. Andrea Bundon, and will be moderated by UBC KIN Alum Dr. Matt Dolf. Registration is free.

Kinesiology Research Forum

October 29th 2019, 12:30pm - 2:00pm | Room 1003, Life Sciences Building

Are you interested in finding out more about the different types of research taking place within our School? Gain exposure to different research opportunities in all five Kinesiology research clusters, connect with faculty and graduate students, and expand your understanding of how your coursework is connected to the research in Kinesiology, from the cellular to the societal level.

2020 UBC Student Leadership Conference (SLC)

The 2020 SLC is a day-long conference that is an opportunity to explore your abilities, participate in a hub for amazing individuals in the community, and access a platform that inspires action.

If you're looking for opportunities to work with them, volunteer to develop collborative, event planning, and networking skills as a coordinator, or apply as a workshop facilitator for a chance to share your knowledge. Applications are open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Applications are due early October.

The Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference (#SLS19), hosted annually by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), is in need of volunteers!  Come network with high performance coaches, national sport leaders and administrators, coach educators, researchers, and other stakeholders.
