IT Holiday Open House

Tuesday, December 3 12:30-2:30 pm

It's that time of the year again to celebrate the holiday season with your friends from UBCO IT. All staff and faculty are invited to enjoy some festive treats and tech themed games. No RSVP needed - but add the calendar invite so your don't forget! 

UBCO IT December Hours 

  • December 3: 12 noon closure for phone & walk-up support for IT Open House
  • December 10: early closure phone and walk-up support for staff event
  • December 25-January 1: CLOSED
  • January 2-3: phone support only 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • January 6: normal services resume

UBCO Email Migrated 

In preparation for implementing Microsoft 365 university-wide, UBC is migrating email services from on-premise to the cloud platform Microsoft Exchange Online. This improves email security, reliablity, and integration with other collaboration tools. After IRP Student

The Integrated Renewal Program – Student (IRP Student) is ending on November 30, 2024, and the next phase of UBC’s Workday Student journey will create continuous improvements and enhancements. IRP Student Completion will focus on completing the scope of work that was in the initial plan for IRP Student and approved by the Board but could not be finished primarily due to timelines and product maturity.   • M365 Training: MS Teams & OneDrive

    • UBC IT Collaboration Technology and Change & Training Teams are collaborating to offer a number of training workshops for Microsoft 365 apps, open to all UBC faculty and staff. Come join us to learn more about using M365 Teams and OneDrive for collaboration and productivity.
      These one-hour online workshops provide an overview of Teams functionality, file sharing and collaborative document best practices with demos and open Q&A to our M365 experts. REGISTER

  • Generative AI in Teaching and Learning Series

    • This year, AI has emerged as a significant tool in education, and faculty at UBC are grappling with its integration in the classroom. The UBC Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) has introduced a new educational series, GenAI in Teaching and Learning. This series aims to help educators transition from concerns to understanding to seeing the opportunities generative AI presents.This series is offering:

      • Weekly GenAI Support Clinics: One-hour drop-in clinics on teaching and learning topics to do with the use of tools such as ChatGPT, Stability AI, Google Bard and others, every Wednesday.
      • Integrating GenAI in Education at UBC 30+30 Workshops: 30-minute interactive presentations followed by 30-minutes of discussion designed to assist faculty and staff in navigating this new landscape.
      • AI in Teaching and Learning website: A hub for ongoing support and up-to-date tools and resources for leveraging Generative AI for teaching and learning.

  • AI and cybersecurity courses from UBC Extended Learning

    UBC Extended Learning just launched many new AI and cybersecurity offerings that ladder into UBC Senate-approved micro-certificate and certificate programs. Tuition waivers and employee group PD funds can be used toward course fees.
