| Public Service Annoucements and News Releases | Regina General Hospital emergency room renovation to enhance care The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is scheduled to begin renovations to the entrance of the Regina General Hospital’s (RGH) emergency department (ED) on Monday, September 14, 2026, following a $1.9 million investment by Government of Saskatchewan to enhance patient care. Once complete, the changes will improve patient flow, enhance safety, and meet the increasing number of patients accessing care in the ED. 🌐 View full release | The Government of Saskatchewan is expanding access to care at pharmacies The Government of Saskatchewan has expanded strep throat and ear infection services to over 100 pharmacies. Pharmacists at select locations across the province have been trained to assess symptoms, perform rapid testing for strep throat, and determine appropriate treatment options, including prescribing medication. It is a true SHA collaboration that brings together home care, food services, volunteer services and dedicated volunteers who help people remain independent in their own homes. Last year, nearly 1,400 volunteers contributed more than 22,000 hours as Meals on Wheels delivery drivers. Wearing an orange shirt is one way to show support, raise awareness, and reflect on the ongoing journey of Truth and Reconciliation. The Saskatchewan Health Authority encourages staff to wear orange on Sept. 30 and on the last Friday of every month as a visible sign of this commitment. Developed under the leadership of the First Nations and Métis Health team and available exclusively through the SHA Store, the SHA Every Child Matters Orange Shirt supports this important work. This presentation will examine how colonial systems disrupted relationships with land, family, culture, and identity and will consider how social workers can support healing practices rooted in respect, responsibility, reciprocity, and connection. To register, or for more information about the Saskatchewan Transplant Program webpage. 🌐 The Saskatchewan Transplant Program | Congenital Syphilis: Preventable, Testable and Treatable Congenital syphilis is preventable, testable and treatable but remains a leading cause of miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm birth, and infant death. Infants may be asymptomatic at birth but if untreated, they can develop serious long-term consequences such as permanent hearing loss, visual impairment and skeletal or dental abnormalities. Since 2018, there has been a significant resurgence of syphilis in Canada. In Saskatchewan, the congenital syphilis rate is 179 per 100,000 births. With initiatives in progress, SHA is working towards reducing rates to 166 by the end of 2026 and to 50 by 2030. Screening and treatment for syphilis and other sexually transmitted blood-borne infections (STBBIs) is available through primary care practitioners, walk-in clinics, hospitals and Saskatchewan sexual health clinics using the provincial requisition (PROV-326). The Congenital Syphilis Pathway for the patient(s) across the continuum of care from prevention to assessment to clinical management and follow-up and informed by critical incident reports, ensures it is grounded in patient needs and system interaction. In May 2026 clinical experts, prevention specialists and community members had the opportunity to validate the patient(s) journey and have identified prevention resources and clinical documents that need to be created or updated. Through syphilis prevention, testing, and treatment initiatives, SHA is supporting healthier communities and improving access to care across Saskatchewan. To aid in this, please remember the following concerning Infection Prevention and Control Additional Precautions signage: - There is a detailed Work Standard on how to order/print, place and remove signage.
- Any signage that is damaged or fading must be discarded and replaced. While the plastic (wipeable) paper is durable, it does not last forever.
- If facilities are printing their own signs:
- Ensure that they are printed on a colour printer, and the hue is correct to prevent potential mix-up of signage (e.g., the purple of the Contact Plus Precautions sign should be dark purple, not lavender).
- If signs are not laminated or in a plastic cover, they must be discarded after Additional Precautions are discontinued.
