The City of Nanaimo's Emergency Alert System, called Voyent Alert! allows residents to use an app or sign up online to receive text, email and phone alerts. Voyent Alert! is a multi-purpose communication service used to send alerts to residents, businesses, and visitors during critical events like fires or floods as well as for relevant day-to-day community safety notifications.

If you haven't already, please make sure you sign up for the system. You can download the Voyent Alert app, available from the App Store or GooglePlay or register for Voyent Alert! online. If you don't have easy access to a computer, our Public Works staff can help you register at 250-758-5222.

It's easy to register! Watch the video above to see Mayor Krog install the app on his phone!

Nanaimo 150: Did you know?

In 1875, Mark Bate became the first Mayor of the City of Nanaimo. He served a total of 15 single-year terms. To give you some perspective, at the time, the entire population of Vancouver Island was 12,700 (1881). Now, nearly 108,000 residents call the City of Nanaimo (not including the RDN) home.

A statue of Mark was donated to the City in 1975 and is located at the Harbourfront Walkway at Mark Bate Memorial Tree Plaza.
