THE FAIRVIEW—CLAYTON PARK REPORT

February: A Month to Save Hearts

Dear Friends of Fairview-Clayton Park,

As February unfolds, I'm excited to highlight some opportunities emerging in our community and make sure your voice is heard..

This month, Hike NS invites all Nova Scotians to take part in the #LoveOurTrailsNS challenge. It's a wonderful chance to explore our local trails, connect with nature, and share your experiences on social media. Simply head out onto a trail, snap a photo, and share it with the #LoveOurTrailsNS hashtag to showcase your love for our beautiful outdoor spaces. Check out my socials to see Cali and me in some of our favourite hiking spots.

As we head into the Spring Session of the Legislature, I'm reaching out for your input. Do you have pressing issues or questions you'd like me to address on the floor of the House? Now is the perfect time to share your thoughts and concerns, and I'm here to ensure your voice is represented.

I also have the privilege of recognizing exceptional individuals who make a real difference in our lives through Member's Statements in the Legislature. Whether it's a heartfelt shout-out to unsung heroes, uplifting business owners, dedicated volunteers, or remarkable achievers, I invite you to submit your nominations. It's a chance to shine a spotlight on those who deserve recognition for their contributions to our community.

Your engagement is vital in shaping our community and advocating for positive change. I encourage you to participate in these initiatives and let your voice be heard.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to working together to make Fairview Clayton Park an even better place to live, work, and thrive.

Keep warm,

Celebrating African Heritage Month

February is African Heritage month in Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia has 52 historic African Nova Scotian communities with a long, deep and complex history dating back over 200 years. African Heritage Month provides us with another opportunity to celebrate our culture, legacy, achievements and contributions of our people – past and present.

This year’s provincial theme is “Our Smiles, Our Joy, Our Resilience as African Nova Scotians.” The theme is a reminder of the positive impact African Nova Scotians bring to our community. As we celebrate their achievements and contributions, we must continue the ongoing work to embrace diversity and inclusion and eliminate systemic racism.

If you would like to attend one of the events or celebrations happening throughout the province this month, you can find a calendar on The Black Culture Centre's website.

Be sure to see the light show downtown (pictured above) at the old Library building as it commemorates this year’s theme: Our Smiles, Our Joy, Our Resilience as African Nova Scotians.
