That's why the Regina Addiction Treatment Centre commissioned local artist Brandy Tabor to bring life, colour, and beauty to its walls. | Recognition and Appreciation | From left: Dana Klapak, SHA Public Health Nutritionist for SE 6-9, Morgan Kelly, Community Services Manager for Southeast Regional Library, and Andrea Toogood, SHA Public Health Nutritionist for Regina and area. | SHA Public Health Nutritionists co-presented with a Regional Library Community Services Manager at the Saskatchewan Libraries Conference in Regina on April 30, 2026. Their session, Opening Doors to Nutrition, highlighted how libraries and Public Health Nutritionists can work together to strengthen food literacy across communities. This collaboration with Southeast Regional Library showcased how libraries -- trusted information hubs with accessible programming spaces -- can play a key role in health promotion. By partnering with SHA's Public Health Nutritionists, libraries can link clients to provincial nutrition resources and programs as well as offer credible, evidence-based nutrition information and support for their communities. Public Health Nutritionists are Registered Dietitians who protect health, promote wellness, and prevent nutrition-related disease at a population level. They do not see individual clients one-on-one; rather, they do this by forming partnerships and collaborating with agencies and organizations to promote health in the community. The conference presentation demonstrated how this unique partnership can expand food literacy and strengthen community wellness across the province. | SHA employee Rhea Marbil's winning entrie for the Endoscopy Coloring Contest | The Canadian Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (CSGNA) Regina Chapter was proud to sponsor the Endoscopy Coloring Contest during Nurses Week 2026. We had a wonderful turnout and some very creative entries, making for some stiff competition! Congratulations to our contest winner, Rhea Marbil, Operating Room Attendant at Regina General Hospital, and thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event such a success. | Ebola/Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Travel History and Symptom Screening | Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) has received notification from the Ministry of Health that Emergency/triage screening for Viral Hemorrhagic Fever (VHF) including Ebola, be activated. This request is in response to the Ebola outbreak involving the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. Symptom-based Screening Tools for Emergency Department/Triage Settings (SHA-0415), including in Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM), have been updated to include questions about travel history to areas of concern combined with symptoms of a VHF or close contact with a confirmed/suspect case. Staff at acute care sites with an emergency department are asked to review their site-specific VHF/Ebola plans, Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers including Ebola Disease (VHF/EBOD) Toolkit, to promptly manage patients presenting that have traveled to an area of concern in the last 21 days. For additional information about this update, the following resources are available from the Government of Canada. | Updates to the Transmission Based Precautions Table | Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) has made the following updates to the Transmission Based Precautions Table: - Added a travel-specific context to the Andes strain of Hantavirus if patient has traveled to Argentina/Chile or been in close contact with a case in the past 42 days.
- Within the Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) entry, provided direction for a patient flagged as Previously Positive MRSA (i.e., they are managed on Routine Practices).
- Provided clarification on when/if precautions can be modified from Droplet/Contact if MRSA or Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE) is found in the sputum or tracheal aspirate.
Please contact your local IPAC department if you have any questions. | SHA Medication Safety Newsletter - May 2026 | The SHA Medication Safety Team is excited to connect with you in providing essential medication safety information through our bi-monthly newsletters on our Sharepoint site.
