Dear Cole Harbour—Dartmouth Residents,

I come to you from a place of gratitude.

There is much unrest in the world and as I reflect on how fortunate we are to live in Canada, it is not lost on me how even here in Canada, we have many who have lost their way and many others who suffer in pain - physical and mental.

Thank you to all who attended to honour those who served Canada and continue to serve our country on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It is out of deep gratitude that we honour them.

May we live each day of our lives from a place of gratitude, as gratitude changes the way we look at the world.

Respectfully,

MLA Radon Detector Loan Program

Canadians spend the majority of our time indoors, as much as 21 hours each day! It is important to ensure the air we are breathing does not harm our health. Part of ensuring healthy indoor air is testing for radon gas.

Long-term exposure to high levels of radon gas is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in Canada. This odorless, tasteless, colorless gas can build up in homes and buildings undetected and the only way to know whether a home has high levels is to test for it.

Creating awareness about radon gas is why we have partnered with LungNSPEI to host the MLA Radon Detector Loan Program.

Providing community access to short-term digital radon detectors for 6-weeks provides borrowers with the opportunity to get a snapshot of potential radon levels in their home, as well as access to radon education materials.

Foraging for Carbs

I am happy to welcome Foraging for Carbs Bakery at 60 Baker Drive, in the O’regans Green Light Building.

Owner/Chef Laura began her journey as a baker and business owner with The Old Apothecary Bakery—a beloved haven where locals and visitors alike flocked to indulge in the finest pastries, bread, and confections.

After the closure of the bakery during the pandemic, she decided to transform her experience into an opportunity to help others achieve their culinary dreams and created the Forging for Carbs cookbook.

Luckily, she has opened a small bakery offering a variety of delicious baked goods. I am excited to have a bakery on Baker Drive for us all to enjoy!
