With the arrival of spring, I hope you’re enjoying that sunshine and finding ways to get active outdoors; as a reminder, both physical activity and sunshine have positive effects on our mental and physical health. As a new mom, recently returned to work form maternity leave, I’m really enjoying the extra hour of sunlight in the evening to get outside after work. My daily dose of physical activity usually involves loading my son in the hiking pack and taking our dogs for a walk. This is a great way to connect with my family while also receiving the benefits of outdoor, physical activity, while demonstrating an active, healthy lifestyle to my son.
This month I challenge you to enjoy some outdoor, physical activity; furthermore, I encourage you to share your experience with others and challenge them to join you – be it someone in your household physically joining you on a walk or taking your next meeting or video-chat on the go. If you’re looking for other ways to get active, check out this issue of the newsletter for information on Staff & Faculty Sports Week, to see what’s happening on the Recreation YouTube channel, learn how to sign up for affordable events such as golf lessons, virtual runs, UBCycles rentals, and so much more!
Take care and stay healthy,
Layne McDougall,
Recreation Manager
