Integrative Naturopathic Treatment Model for Glioblastoma Multiforme: A Retrospective Study

It is a great honour and an exciting step in IHC’s evolution as a world-class cancer centre, being selected for oral presentation at the SIO® 22nd International Conference being held at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the cancer hospital Harvard University.I will be presenting Integrative Naturopathic Treatment Model for Glioblastoma Multiforme: A Retrospective Study. This is the culmination of 15 years of research on the outcomes of our patients with GBM. The 2025 Scientific Review Committee for the Society of Integrative Oncology decided that the importance of our work warranted oral presentation to the hundreds of attendees from over 30 countries from around the world, wanting to learn the latest and greatest in the field. Here is the abstract:

ABSTRACT

Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor with limited treatment options and poor prognosis. Emerging evidence suggests that integrative oncology approaches may provide survival benefits when combined with conventional treatments. This study examines whether an integrative oncology treatment plan incorporating modulated electro-hyperthermia (mEHT) improves survival in GBM patients.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed data from GBM patients treated at the Integrated Health Clinic (IHC) between 2010 and 2024. Survival outcomes were compared between IHC patients receiving adjuvant integrative naturopathic therapies and a matched control group from the National Cancer Institute Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Kaplan-Meier survival estimates, and Cox proportional hazard models were conducted to assess survival differences. Secondary analyses evaluated the impact of treatment timing (≤120 days vs. >120 days post-diagnosis) and age on survival.

Results: The integrative treatment cohort demonstrated a lower hazard of mortality than the SEER group (HR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.53-1.00). The treatment benefit was greater among IHC patients who started treatment within 120 days of diagnosis (HR = 0.52, 95% CI: 0.33-0.83) and those under age 50 (HR = 0.51, 95% CI: 0.31-0.85).

Conclusions: The findings suggest that an integrative naturopathic approach incorporating mEHT may improve survival outcomes in GBM patients. Patients initiating integrative treatment earlier experienced a greater survival benefit, as did patients under 50 years of age. Further studies, ideally prospective randomized controlled trials, are warranted to validate these findings.

What does this mean in English? Those patients that included IHC’s integrative protocols alongside the standard of care had a 28% reduced risk of mortality over the 14-year period. As if that is not compelling enough, those patients that attended IHC for treatment within 3-months of diagnosis had a 48% lower risk, and those under the age of 50 had a 49% reduced risk of mortality. These numbers are statistically significant and will now need to be repeated in prospective trials. We are working diligently at making that happen.

Keto Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

Adapted from sweetashoney.com

Wet ingredients

  • ½ cup peanut butter or almond butter
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  •  2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Dry ingredients

  • ⅓ cup granulated sweetener like monk fruit or monk fruit/erythritol blend
  • ½ cup sliced almonds + 1 extra tablespoon to decorate on top
  • ⅓ cup flaxseed meal
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • ⅓ cup pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup unsweetened desiccated coconut
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Chocolate drizzle

  • 3 tablespoons sugar-free chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Instructions:

  1. Line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl or a saucepan, place all the wet ingredients: peanut butter, coconut oil, and vanilla.
  3. Microwave by 30-second bursts, stir and repeat until the coconut oil is fully melted and combines with the nut butter. It should not take more than 1 minute 30 seconds. Otherwise, melt the ingredients in a saucepan under medium heat, often stirring to prevent the mixture from sticking to the pan.
  4. Stir in the sugar-free crystal sweetener, stir and microwave an extra 30 seconds to incorporate well. Erythritol doesn't dissolve very well, but it will give some delicious sweet crunch into your bars or see paleo note.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, add the rest of the dry ingredients: sliced almonds, flaxseed meal, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut, and cinnamon. Stir to combine.
  6. Pour the nut butter mixture onto the dry ingredients. Stir with a spatula to combine. You want to cover all the dry ingredients with the nut butter mixture.
  7. Transfer the mixture into the prepared loaf pan. Press the mixture evenly with your hand to leave no air. Flatten the surface with a spatula.
  8. Freeze for 20 minutes until the breakfast bars are hard and set.
  9. Remove from the freezer, lift the parchment paper to pull out the bar from the loaf pan. Place on a plate. Sprinkle extra sliced almonds on top.
  10. In a small bowl, microwave the sugar-free dark chocolate and coconut oil until fully melted.
  11. Drizzle the melted chocolate on top of the bar, return into the freezer for 1-3 minutes until the chocolate is set.
  12. Cut into 8 breakfast bars.
  13. Wrap each bar individually into plastic wrap or bee wax. Store in the fridge for up to 8 days.

July 2025 - Featured Product

Here is an immune system hack! One that I prescribe on a regular basis.

ImmPower ER is a standardized extract made through the fermentation of a proprietary mushroom hybrid (AHCC) that helps stimulate NK-cell activity, supports enhanced cytokine production, and promotes optimal T-Cell and macrophage activity.

ImmPower ER is the exclusive healthcare professional formula that improves the immuno-enhancing properties of AHCC with extended-release technology for the ultimate in immune system support.* Extended release technology prolongs ingredient dissolution by adhering specifically to the Peyer’s patches where AHCC can be released in a site-specific manner and protect against enzymatic degradation. This leads to prolonged and consistent enhancement of natural killer cell activity, and promotes optimal T-cell and macrophage function, heightening your body’s immune defense.

AHCC has been the subject of more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals, describing research in animals and humans. These show that AHCC:

  • Maintains peak NK (Natural Killer) cell function.
  • Supports enhanced cytokine production.
  • Promotes optimal T-cell and macrophage activity.*
  • Increases your body’s immune defense.

At just 2 capsules per day (2,000mg), this product packs an immune punch!
