This week...

Prepare for more heavy rainfall, mark your calendars for some holiday fun on the ice and review REIMAGINE phase 2 summary. Read on for more!

Message from Province of BC

We’re in the middle of one of the most intense series of storms we’ve seen in southwest BC, intensified by climate change. Be ready and prepare for heavy rains β€” they could worsen existing flooding or create new flooding and increase risk to our highways.

Key updates for Vancouver Island Region:

  • Rivers are rising rapidly throughout southwest BC, with dynamic conditions expected through the coming week. Flooding is possible and flood watches are in effect for the south half of Vancouver Island.
  • We are prepared to use the Alert Ready program (aka a "broadcast intrusive alert") if a community feels there is an imminent threat to life or public safety.
  • Road conditions are monitored around the clock and highways will be reopened when it is safe. Avoid non-essential travel and follow @DriveBC for the latest conditions.
  • Overall, our food supply chain remains in good shape.

Thank you to everyone who took part and provided their feedback in Phase 2 of REIMAGINE Nanaimo!

We heard from over 2,300 survey and workshop participants on Nanaimo's Foundations (Goals, Targets & Indicators) and Land Use Scenarios. Feedback gathered in Phase 2 will be used in the preparation of a draft City Plan. Phase 2 Public Engagement Summary and Appendices are now available on the City website. On November 22, staff presented the results to Council at their Governance and Priorities Committee (GPC) meeting. You can view a recording of the presentation and staff's report on the meeting's page on the City website.

Thank you again to everyone who took part. We look forward to engaging with you in Phase 3 - the final phase of REIMAGINE Nanaimo!
