Dear lawyers represented by the APTS,
The creation of several working and preparatory committees for future bargaining was agreed to during the last round of negotiations, leading to the collective agreement that came into force in June 2024.
These include a committee that will specifically analyze the issue of the compensation of lawyers in the health and social services system. This inter-union committee has the mandate to study the total compensation of lawyers, analyze the context for attraction and retention, examine the impact of the temporary premium in effect at the Director of Youth Protection (DPJ) for lawyers employed by the legal affairs department and take a position on whether the premium should be maintained or abolished.
The APTS bargaining team is analyzing some of the recent arbitration decisions and is conferring with the other union partners on this committee to ensure we are united when we speak on behalf of lawyers in the health and social services system.
These analyses and recommendations will be collected in a report to the negotiating parties six months before the current collective agreement expires, in March 2028.
The APTS would like to form an advisory committee to support the bargaining team in these important efforts, the result of years of mobilization by lawyers represented by the APTS and union representatives. To accomplish this, we are issuing a call for interest to find five APTS members with the job title of lawyer who would like to get involved in this issue.
Profile of eligible members:
- have the job title “1114 – Lawyer;”
- have access to the TEAMS platform to attend meetings.
Mandate:
- to give its opinion to the bargaining team on mandates assigned to the committee and any other related matter;
- to find innovative, pragmatic solutions to the problems studied;
- as needed, to inform legal colleagues about the committee’s work and progress.
