2022 WASTE COMPOSITION STUDY COMPLETED

The 2022 waste composition study completed at the Squamish Landfill showed that a huge amount of material could have been diverted.

Ten percent of the material originating from residential garbage collection could have been put in the blue recycling bin. Another 25 percent could have been recycled at depots. Diverting these materials frees up precious space and extends the limited life span of our Squamish Landfill. Why does that matter? What we dispose of does not disappear. By reusing, recycling, and re-purposing materials, we can extend their use and lifetime.
