Abbotsford Canada Day

The City of Abbotsford, in partnership with Tourism Abbotsford, is introducing new and improved access and accessibility features to this year’s Canada Day celebration to ensure a more inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Designed to increase participation and ease of access to all the day’s activities, the event held at Exhibition Park has been redesigned with a new site layout, expanded accessible parking spaces near the main park entrance and increased wheelchair/stroller friendly surfaces throughout the grounds. These improvements aim to make it easier for all attendees to move through the event and participate in activities, including the popular Sport Zone.

Returning this year is the sensory-friendly zone, operated by the Canucks Autism Network, which is open to all ages from 1-7 p.m. indoors in the Legacy Building.

Additional accessible enhancements include:

  • 75% of on-site washrooms are accessible, with accessible portable washrooms also available along the parade route;
  • Multi-lingual volunteers available on site for assistance;
  • Designated drop-off and pick-up zones for people with mobility challenges, and;
  • Complementary wheelchairs available on site.

To further support accessibility and ease of entry and departure, there will be increased pedestrian access points on the east and west sides of the park. Attendees are encouraged to consider a “Drive to 5” option - parking in the neighbourhood surrounding Exhibition Park, and walking up to five minutes to the site.

Congratulations to the Abbotsford Canucks!

The Calder Cup is here in Abbotsford! Congratulations to the Abbotsford Canucks on winning their first ever American Hockey League championship. The Abbotsford Canucks bring so much to our community. They provide affordable, entertaining and high-level hockey that is as close to the NHL as you can get. Events like hockey games bring an economic boost to the community through added out-of-town attendees who visit restaurants, hotels and other retail venues nearby. The Canucks are also a positive presence in the sports scene regionally and internationally. The team uses the tagline “Proudly Abbotsford” and we want them to know that Abbotsford is proud of them.

The win caps off an amazing 2024-25 season for the Canucks, from their strong finish in the regular season through their incredible playoff run. Congratulations to the players, coaches, staff and the entire Canucks organization for this historic win. Be sure to check out the full blog.

Promoting cross-border collaboration

As the leaders of a border city, we know how important cross-border trade is for our economy, community and local businesses.
