Journal for Climate Justice: Newsletter Feature Request

The UBC Journal for Climate Justice (JCJ) is an emerging digital platform featuring climate justice research and insights at the intersections of art, advocacy, and academics.

Submission window is open from now. Contributors from a broad range of backgrounds are eligible for publication, including current UBC and non-UBC students, recent graduates, and any community members interested in climate justice. For selected works, authors will be compensated $200 CAD (with a supplemental honorarium for Indigenous contributors).

Participants needed | Schizophrenia and Heat Study 

People with schizophrenia have died at disproportionately high rates in recent heat events.  Vancouver Coastal Health's study team aims to get a fuller understanding of their experiences in extreme heat events through interviewing individuals with schizophrenia, as well as their caregivers and loved ones. Help lend a hand by spreading the word to any individuals who may be interested in participating in this study.

Call for Papers | Household Water Insecurity Experiences Research Intersections 

HWISE- RCN seek papers for multiple themed sessions that engage and develop the complex ways household water insecurity intersects with other large processes and phenomena, including, but not limited to:

  • climate change and adaptation
  • social determinants of health and well-being
  • intersections with other resource insecurities (food, energy, housing, etc.)
  • mobility and migration

They welcome a broad array of theoretical and methodological approaches, and particularly encourage submissions from early career scholars with new or preliminary research using innovative perspectives. Abstract and session submission deadline below.

PhD Studies Opportunity

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Regina (Saskatchewan, Canada) seek a PhD student to research nonverbal interspecies communication in the Circumpolar North, specifically the Inuvialuit Settlement Region within the Northwest Territories (NT), Canada. The research process and outcomes of the successful applicant will be affiliated with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) funded interdisciplinary project, Sensory Acts: More Than Human Communication in the Circumpolar North (SACTS), overseen by Dr. Alex Oehler and Dr. Sarah Abbott.

3 Part Communications Training Course | Seeding Success

Hosted by the BC Agricultural Climate Action Research Network and BC Food Web. Geared towards professionals and students working in agricultural extension and research, this training will build skills in the art and science of effective communications with a focus on written materials. The sessions will cover principles of adult learning, strategies and tips for translating research so that farmers will want to read it, and how to share your research summary to get it into more farmers' hands. Participants will also have the option to complete a summary of their own research during the training.

New course on Energy Economics at SPPGA

The goal of this course is to understand how energy in the form of electricity and heat is produced, transported, traded, and consumed. And how new technologies like solar photovoltaics, batteries, and hydrogen are changing the economics of the sector as they replace coal, oil, and natural gas. With this economic foundation, coupled with perspectives from real-world applications, and perspectives from related disciplines, this course will enable students to sharpen their ability to understand, evaluate, and critique energy policy.
