Remembrance Day in The Blue Mountains

The Town of The Blue Mountains joins communities across Canada in commemorating Remembrance Day on Monday, November 11. Town Hall will be closed on November 11 and will reopen on Tuesday, November 12.

Members of the public are invited to the following ceremonies in honour of Remembrance Day:

  • Wednesday, November 6 at 6:45 p.m.
    Guides, Embers and Sparks Candlelit service at the Thornbury Cenotaph
  • Sunday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m.
    Remembrance Day Church Service at Grace United Church
  • Monday, November 11 at 10:45 a.m.
    Remembrance Ceremony at the Thornbury Cenotaph - Jack Acres Park
  • Monday, November 11 at 12:45 p.m.
    Remembrance Ceremony at the Ravenna Cenotaph

Sign Up For eBilling For Your Property Tax Or Utility Accounts Through Virtual Town Hall

The Town of The Blue Mountains Finance Department would like to remind residents that paperless billing is available for Town Property Tax or Utility accounts through the Virtual Town Hall service.

Choose paperless billing for:

  • Instant Access: Receive your bills and statements directly in your inbox.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Help reduce paper waste and contribute to a greener planet.
  • Secure and Convenient: Manage your billing online with secure access to your account anytime, anywhere.

Users can also view account status, access current and prior bills and sign up for pre-authorized payment plans in Virtual Town Hall. 

Enroll by visiting Virtual Town Hall at https://vch.thebluemountains.ca/VCH/. Users will require their customer ID and name exactly as it appears on on their property tax or utility bill. For additional assistance in activating an account, the Town has provided detailed instructions.

Environmental Sustainability Fund Accepting Applications

The Town of The Blue Mountains is inviting community organizations to apply for the Town’s Environmental Sustainability Fund.

This fund has an allocation of $8,000 that will be split between the successful applications which demonstrate a clear goal of advancing environmental sustainability within the Town. 

Interested community organizations wishing to apply must submit their application no later than December 2, 2024, at 11:59 p.m

Town Hosting Tourism Roundtable on Wednesday, November 13

The Town of The Blue Mountains is hosting a Community Tourism Roundtable on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Roundtable will give participants an opportunity to share their experience with tourism in the Town of The Blue Mountains and provide their vision for the future of tourism development, management and marketing in the Town.

Residents, visitor-facing business owners, employees at an organization related to tourism in The Blue Mountains or individuals interested in tourism in The Blue Mountains are encouraged to register for the upcoming facilitated Community Roundtable on the Town’s website. The Roundtable will take place on Microsoft Teams.

Kindness Gala Taking Place This Saturday

The Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary Club is hosting the Kindness Gala this Saturday at Georgian Peaks Club, where they invite you to indulge in an evening of elegance, exquisite cuisine, dancing and good times. 

The Gala will support the Kindness at Play project to revitalize Moreau Park. The Town has partnered with the Rotary Club to transform Moreau Park into a park for all community members. The park will feature a revitalized skate park designed for all ages and abilities, a year-round paved pathway, sensory gardens and an accessible playground.

Joint Special Meeting of Council Held

The Town's consultant presented a high-level overview of the Multi-Use Recreation Feasibility Assessment survey results at a Joint Special Meeting of Council between the Town of The Blue Mountains and the Town of Collingwood on Wednesday, October 30. The presentation provided a summary of the public engagement completed to date, and gave both Councils the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. Colliers continues to work on gathering data and analytics required to put together the final project report. This report is anticipated to be completed and presented before the end of 2024.

Hinds Brook Public Meeting

On November 26, 2024, a Public Meeting will be held to consider an Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment and Draft Plans of Subdivision and Condominium for lands at 496857 Grey Rd 2 to permit 376 rowhouse and back-to-back units.

The property is designated Rural, Hazard and Special Agriculture. It is bound by Grey Rd 2 in the west, the Georgian Trail in the north, includes a portion of Indian Brook and significant woodlands. It is surrounded by a trailer park, employment, hazard and agricultural lands and a designated future secondary plan area.

Development Activity Underway

The following projects in the Town of The Blue Mountains are set to begin or complete work in the coming months. Click the links for more information about each project:

Regional Stormwater Management Plan
The Drainage Act Agreement has been signed, and over $2 million in developer-funded drainage improvement works will begin soon.

Eden Oak Trailshead
Highway 26 road-widening is nearing completion. A new pre-servicing agreement is now in place, in addition to the existing earthworks pre-servicing agreement.

Hillside
A pre-servicing agreement is now in place. Construction is expected to begin in 2025.

Lora Bay Drainage Improvements
Works are almost completed, with developers contributing over $1 million for drainage improvements.

Lora Bay Phase 4
The assumption process has begun and a report will be going to Council on December 16, 2024, for the Town to assume all public services.
