Unpacking COP28: A Panel Discussion

November 21, 3:30-5:00pm 

With COP28 in the United Arab Emirates just around the corner, join our panel of experts for a primer on how United Nations climate summits work, the pressing issues up for negotiation this year, and a question and answer period. The event will be hosted in person at UBC's Vancouver campus, and available by Zoom webinar. check the registration page for details.

Climate Solutions Research Collective News 

Launching the Collective

On September 29th, 2023, the UBCV and UBCO research communities gathered to launch the Climate Solutions Research Collective. Nearly 100 students, staff, and faculty from across a range of study areas at both campuses discussed the intersections between their own work and that of others gathered. The topics raised in these discussions will inform future events hosted by the Collective. Watch the introductory remarks for the opening of the Climate Collective.

Meet the 2023/24 Solutions Scholars

Ten graduate students were selected as the first cohort of Solutions Scholars starting in September 2023. Each is undertaking a research project that centers around one of two themes: i) wildfires and/or extreme heat, and ii) urban transformations. Read about them and their research on our website.

UBC CSDI Policy Communication Workshop Series - Multiple Dates

Policy and its connection to research was identified as a major topic of interest by participants at the Climate Collective launch event in September.  The UBC Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions hosts several policy related workshops and hosts consulting hours for members of the UBC community.

Building Momentum Toward Net Zero - November 9, 2023

Presented by the Canadian Climate Institute and Net-Zero Advisory Board. This event will provide a sector by sector review of Canada's 2030 targets and path to net-zero (online option).

The Climate Solutions Research Collective is a new UBC pan-university initiative designed to build connections across UBC climate researchers, groups and initiatives, and to encourage new collaborative research on climate change solutions. Through seminars, workshops, and a graduate student Solutions Scholars program, it aims to foster engagement across departments and faculties, and to support graduate students and faculty in applying their research and expertise to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and/or education.
