This Week...

Our annual catch basin cleaning program begins today, join us to celebrate Earth Day and a call for artists to apply for Luminous Paths 2027. Read on for more!

Annual Catch Basin Cleaning Program

Beginning today, Monday, April 13, City of Nanaimo Public Works staff and contractors will be out cleaning the City's inventory of stormwater catch basins. This work helps reduce the risk of pollutants from entering our natural environment.

Starting in the Duke Point area, crews will work their way north through the various corridors of the city. This work involves large equipment and staff working on the road. Please approach with caution and obey traffic control personnel's directions. The annual catch basin cleaning program is expected to be complete by the end of August. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to watch for crews and traffic control personnel on the roads and be aware of missing grates near the work zone.

Water Meter Reading

The City's Water Meter Readers would like to remind residents that water meter boxes need to remain visible and accessible at all times of the year.

When doing spring pruning and weeding, please make sure to prune back any shrubs or bushes that have grown too close to water meter lids. Overgrown shrubs have led to many wasp stings.

FireSmartTM

Are you ready for this year’s fire season? We're here to help make sure you’re prepared when and where it counts.

Wildfire is a risk that all British Columbians need to be prepared for. But while that seems like a big task, FireSmartTM is here to help you get started and make proven steps toward protecting your home and your community from wildfire.
