CURRENT OUTDOOR RESTRICTIONS

DISTRICT SECURES PROVINCIAL GRANT TO SUPPORT IMMERSIVE SḴWX̱WÚ7MESH STORY AT SQUAMISH ADVENTURE CENTRE

A $999,250 grant has been awarded to Squamish from the B.C. Destination Development Fund for the Squamish Adventure Centre (SAC) Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Story Experience Enhancement Project. 

The story project aims to engage visitors in cultural history and environment unique to our region while improving public awareness of the Indigenous traditions and experiences available throughout the Sea to Sky. The work will be completed in collaboration with Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw to share their narrative through accessible interpretive experiences in and around the centre.

MINISTER OF INNOVATION, SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY TRADE PAYS VISIT TO SQUAMISH

On Thursday, May 25, Squamish hosted the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Trade François-Philippe Champagne along with MP Patrick Weiler for an opportunity to showcase the beauty of Squamish and its thriving, diverse, and innovative economy.

The Minister and MP were welcomed by District of Squamish Elected Officials (Mayor Hurford, Councillor Pettingill, and Councillor Anderson), District staff, Squamish’s innovation working group, Sea to Sky Outdoor Adventure Recreation Enterprise board members, the Economic Leadership team, as well as diverse Squamish entrepreneurs.

RESIDENTS INVITED TO SUBMIT THEIR NOISE CONCERNS FOR THE SQUAMISH MUNICIPAL AIRPORT

The District of Squamish is developing a long-term Strategic Plan for the Squamish Municipal Airport – Don Patrick Field. The multi-phase process started in 2022. As part of this work, the District has created a Noise Concern submission form to enable residents to submit noise concerns to the District. This form will help identify areas impacted by noise as well as the frequency/time of day.

The Re-Use-It Fair is an excellent opportunity to bring unwanted usable items or take away used treasures from someone else — for FREE! You don’t have to bring something to the Re-Use-It Fair to participate.

INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

 

Notice of paving work: Garibaldi Way and Tantalus Road Intersection Improvements

Paving work will take place on Garibaldi Way (from Tantalus Road to Diamond Head Road) starting Tuesday, May 30 through Thursday, June 1.

Please expect delays with single-lane alternating traffic and obey all traffic control personnel during this time. Work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. and will continue until 6 p.m. if needed.

To avoid delays, please use alternate routes if possible while this work is being completed.

 

Judd Road watermain upgrade

Upgrades to the watermain along Judd Road between Cottonwood Road and Government Road, as well as a small section on Eagle Run Drive, will begin May 23. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is expected to be completed by mid-August.

Impacts:

  • Please expect delays and single-lane alternating traffic.
  • There will be no parking in the work zone during work hours.
  • To avoid delays, plan your route around the work area whenever possible.
  • Expect construction noise during working hours.

40279 GOVERNMENT ROAD - Rezoning

Requests for a public meeting must be made within the first 21 calendar days of a project’s launch in the Development Review. If a combination of 10 separate website-based, emailed or written requests are received by the District, then the applicant will be required to hold a Public Information Meeting regarding their proposed development.

  • POOL CLOSURE: Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. (due to local swimming event)
  • STEAM ROOM CLOSURE: The steam room is currently closed for an unexpected repair. Another update will be provided early next week.
  • ICE ARENA: Last day May 31. Ice removal beginning June 1.

Held by the Land: Film Screening and Author Talk with Styawat/ Leigh Joseph
