Fitness Assessments:

Student- led fitness assessment schedule, in collaboration with Work integrated learn course, Kin 272, is being finalized and will be ready to invite qualified participants to book at the end of October. These are limited sessions and are open to returning clients. These assessments are free to book, however rebooking/rescheduling options are limited and may not be available.

Personal Trainer led fitness assessments are now open and our office is sending booking links to participants based on date of last completed assessment .

If you book this type of assessment and are unable to complete due to high blood pressure/ heart rate, you will be given a physician clearance form to complete and submit before you will be invited to rebook (no fee will apply in this scenario).

Fitness Assessment Location

All fitness assessments for BodyWorks programs run at UBC MacIsaac Health Building and start in the basement in room B1209 (teaching and learning lab next to the BodyWorks Gym).

As the building is a multi-user space, location of the 6 minute walk (included in 55+ Fitness Assessments) may change over the next few months.  If you have a 55+ assessment booked this fall, please come with a jacket in the event this portion of the assessment needs to be completed outside. Thank you for your understanding.

Recruiting Research Participants

1. Motor Imagery Study

Participants are needed for a UBC study to investigate processes used when imagining and planning actions. Participants will be asked to complete keypress sequences and judge whether an image is of a right or left hand.

This study is being run by the Motor Skills Lab in the School of Kinesiology by principal investigator Dr. Nicola Hodges.

It is anticipated that the study will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. It is fully online, requiring only a computer (laptop or desktop) with a device to play audio (speakers or headphones).

Criteria for participation:

1) Over the age of 18, 2) Normal or corrected-to-normal vision and colour vision, 3) No existing injuries that would prevent being able to do keypresses, 4) No known neurological disorder, 5) Good understanding of English (to follow both written & verbal instructions).

We are particularly interested in recruiting participants over the age of 60 years.

Additional information about the study can be found at the link to participate below.

The consent form is presented on one of the first pages and clients who decide they are not interested can exit without participating or providing any information.
