This program is sure to leave you spellbound! We have amplified Brahms’s famous String Sextet in E-flat major for the entire string orchestra, dividing the orchestra into six sections with an additional double bass—as Mahler did in his arrangement of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden quartet and Schoenberg in Transfigured Night. Beethoven’s legendary Fifth Symphony was reduced to strings, whereas the front row quartet has taken on the place and role of the wind instruments. This concert embodies passion, lyricism, spirit, and energy—the founding I Musici de Montréal characteristics that will literally be amplified and multiplied through these new arrangements.

Jean-François Rivest, artistic advisor and conductor

MUSICI WORKSHOPS IN SCHOOLS, IT CONTINUES

Faithful to their educational mission, your Musici host different musical workshops in school. These meetings offer children musical experiences adapted to their level of learning. Better than anything: they prepare our audience of tomorrow! In short, a trio of I Musici visits classes and hosts educational musical sessions, for example, making bridges between known melodies and great classical composers. Students are also invited to share the emotions they feel listening to the musical excerpts, while becoming familiar with the vocabulary specific to the orchestra. This splendid project is made possible thanks to the financial support of A Montreal School for All.

Last December, an I Musici trio, composed of Elvira Misbakhova (viola), Dominic Guilbault (violin) and Yannick Chênevert (bass), gave a musical workshop in two schools in the Ahuntsic and Saint-Michel neighbourhoods in Montreal. And these twelve primary classes will attend a rehearsal on February 1 at the Salle Pierre-Mercure.
