IMPORTANT: Transportation Update for Equines Returning to Canada
from the United States

Equestrian Canada (EC) is working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to expedite the return process for equines to Canada from the United States.

Additionally, CFIA is collaborating with the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) to ensure clear communication at all levels. All information collected by EC regarding out-of-country individuals has been shared with CFIA and CBSA to assist this process.

Please see the below important updates:

1. You are encouraged to return home with your equines as soon as possible to avoid further travel complications and border closures.
    
2. Make sure that your equine’s EC Horse Recording or National Passport is active and available, particularly for equines who have been in the US for more than 60 days.
    
3. To expedite the export process while maintaining the procedural efficacy, CFIA has agreed to temporarily accept digital veterinary signatures for USDA endorsed health certificates. This will drastically improve turn-around time and reduce postage.
    
4. If your equine has been in the US for less than 60 days:
   Equines that have been in the US for less than 60 days can return to Canada on their Canadian health certificate as indicated in the CFIA Automated Import Reference System (AIRS). It is important to refer to the AIRS to understand and complete the necessary import requirements. For help using the system, a short tutorial can be found here.
   
   If your equines has been in the US for more than 60 days:
   Equines that have been in the US for over 60 days must return to Canada with a US health certificate, as the status of these equines has automatically switched from Canadian to American.
    
5. Please review the following information to prepare for your upcoming border crossing:

6. If you have not already done so, register with the Government of Canada as a Canadian abroad here so that they may track the whereabouts of citizens and permanent residents.

IMPORTANT : Mise à jour pour
le transport des chevaux de retour au Canada depuis les États-Unis

CE travaille de près avec l’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) et sa contrepartie américaine, l’United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) pour accélérer le processus de retour des chevaux.

De plus, l’ACIA collabore avec l’Agence des services frontaliers du Canada (ASFC) pour garantir une communication claire à tous les niveaux. Toute l’information recueillie par CE relativement les personnes à l’extérieur du pays a été partagée avec l’ACIA et l’ASFC pour soutenir ce processus.

Vous trouverez ci-dessous quelques mises à jour importantes :

1. Vous êtes encouragés à rentrer au pays avec votre/vos cheval(aux) aussitôt que possible afin d’éviter davantage de complications liées aux déplacements et à la fermeture des frontières.
    
2. Assurez-vous que votre fiche d'identification ou passeport national de CE pour votre/vos cheval(aux) est actif et disponible, particulièrement pour les chevaux qui sont aux États-Unis depuis plus de 60 jours.
    
3. Pour accélérer le processus d’Exportation tout en maintenant l’efficacité de la procédure, l’ACIA acceptera temporairement les signatures numériques de vétérinaires pour les certificats sanitaires approuvés par l’USDA. Cela améliorera grandement le temps de réponse et réduira les frais postaux.
    
4. Si votre cheval est aux États-Unis depuis moins de 60 jours :
   Les chevaux qui sont aux États-Unis depuis moins de 60 jours peuvent rentrer au Canada avec leur certificat sanitaire canadien, comme indiqué dans le Système automatisé de référence à l’importation (SARI) de l’ACIA. Il est important de se référer au SARI pour comprendre et compléter les exigences nécessaires d’importation.    Si votre cheval est aux États-Unis depuis plus de 60 jours :
   Les chevaux qui sont aux États-Unis depuis plus de 60 jours doivent rentrer au Canada avec un certificat sanitaire américain, puisque le statut de ces chevaux est automatiquement passé de canadien à américain.
    
5. Veuillez examiner les renseignements suivants afin de vous préparer à votre prochain passage de la frontière :

6. Si vous ne l’avez pas déjà fait, inscrivez-vous auprès du gouvernement du Canada comme Canadiens à l'étranger en cliquant ici, permettant ainsi de suivre la localisation des citoyens et des résidents permanents.

Veuillez partager ce courriel ainsi que le formulaire d’inscription de CE pour les personnes à l’extérieur du pays, à des compatriotes canadiens dont le(s) cheval(aux) est/sont en processus de retour au Canada depuis les États-Unis.
