Make the most of the Main Event

The Main Event, aptly named because it takes place on Main Mall, is an event you won’t want to miss. Following the Imagine UBC Pep Rally, the Main Event is an enormous showcase of all the different ways students can get involved on campus—you can check out hundreds of booths hosted by student groups, clubs, and UBC services. There are a lot of things you may wish to know before you start your first year, like how to take effective notes. Or, how to use the printers on campus to avoid last-minute essay printing scrambles. And that all-nighters, an inevitable rite of passage, do not (unsurprisingly) produce the best work. 5 things your profs want you to know

University is different than high school. It’s a whole new style of learning in a whole new kind of environment. And who better to give advice on that transition than our very own UBC profs?

Imagine UBC

Tuesday, September 3rd

On the first day of classes, campus is transformed and the entire UBC community comes together to welcome you to your new academic community and celebrate the start of the school year.

 

For most students, Imagine UBC replaces the first day of classes. You will have the chance to meet some great people including your Dean, some of your future professors, and other students. It will be an opportunity to learn about your new academic environment and the specific expectations of your Faculty.

UBC Pride

September 6th, 5-9 PM | Fairview Commons (outside the Earth Sciences Building)

On September 6, Pride comes to UBC in celebration of Positive Space, and the diversity of our community. Get ready for a FREE and fabulous evening where we appreciate the beauty of all sexual and gender identities.
Strike a pose and get your dance on. You will not want to miss this, it's UBC's third annual Pride event which is going to be bigger, louder and prouder!

UBC Homecoming

Saturday, September 14

UBC Homecoming is the University’s premier celebration of school spirit for students, alumni, and the neighbouring community. It is a time to welcome students to campus, welcome back alumni, reconnect with friends and classmates, start some new traditions, and really show our school spirit.

Plan to visit the Point Grey campus on Saturday, September 14, 2019, for an exciting day of events, attractions, and the Homecoming football game.

Running Free: Documentary Premiere and Panel

September 18, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM | Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre

Join us for the premiere screening of Running Free: Children’s Independent Mobility, produced by Professor Guy Faulkner of UBC’s School of Kinesiology. Told through the eyes of three families, this 26-minute documentary explores the concept of children’s independent mobility, the benefits for children’s mental health, and challenges viewers to consider solutions to this issue. Following the screening there will be a panel discussion about the film’s themes and a reception where you can continue the conversation with fellow UBC alumni and friends.

Cost: $10 per person. Complimentary admission for current UBC students.

Day of the LongBoat

Saturday and Sunday September 28-29 2019 | Jericho Sailing Centre

This signature UBC event takes place on the shores of Jericho Beach with over 3,000 people paddling in the largest voyageur canoe race in the world. Your team races in either just-for-fun or competitive heats to the finish line. You can also enjoy games at the Day of the LongBoat festival, and the facilities at the Jericho Sailing Centre.
