Woodgrove Area Plan Phase 2

The Woodgrove Area planning project has entered Phase 2 and we are sharing some growth scenarios for your input.

This project is focused on transforming this areas into a vibrant, mixed-use urban centre. The latest phase of the project focuses on understanding what actions we can take to move this area closer to becoming a complete community (an area where someone can live and access most of their basic needs within a 15-20 minute walk or bike ride) and what impacts future growth may have on transportation (roads, cycle lanes, sidewalks and transit) and infrastructure (water mains, sewer mains, etc.) networks and Woodgrove residents’ ability to access their daily needs.

We want to hear your feedback on the findings! The survey opens today and closes on July 2, 2025. To explore the scenarios, learn more about the project and take the survey, visit: www.getinvolvednanaimo.ca/woodgrove.

Thank you for your participation!

Each artist's name and artwork title is listed beneath their respective section.

2026 Temporary Public Art Program

The City of Nanaimo is inviting artists to submit proposals for the 2026 Temporary Public Art Program, with projects initiated in 2025 and installed in 2026. This is a unique opportunity for artists of all disciplines and backgrounds to shape the city’s cultural landscape through public art.

The Temporary Public Art Program is open to individual artists or artist teams and welcomes a wide range of proposals varying in scale, scope, and medium, from sculptural installations to socially engaged or community-based projects. Artwork must be designed to remain in place for up to five years. The deadline to submit proposals is 11:59 pm Pacific Time, October 26, 2025.

National Indigenous Day

Be Bear Aware

Did you know that over half of problem bear calls in B.C. are linked to garbage? When bears become food-conditioned, it creates safety risks for humans and for the bears. Help prevent this by reducing odours (freeze scraps, use vinegar or baking soda) and keeping your carts secured. Only set carts out the morning of collection day and remove them promptly after pickup. Let's keep bears wild and our community safe!

Monitoring starts June 17 and you can find the results on the Beach Reports page on the City website.

You can help your collection day go smooth by making sure your carts are out by 8 am, placing them 1 metre (3 feet) apart and tossing the right items in the right cart - use the What Goes Where tool on the Nanaimo Recycles app.
