Future Home of the Squamish Search and Rescue

Squamish Search and Rescue (SSAR), in partnership with the District of Squamish, is excited to announce the development of a new headquarters. The relocation of Squamish Search and Rescue (SSAR) to the Squamish Municipal Airport – Don Patrick Field is a beneficial step to enhance search and rescue response for Squamish and the surrounding region.

SSAR plays an essential role in providing critical backcountry emergency response operations and this new location will ensure long-term sustainability and allow for more efficient response and training.

The SSAR headquarters is scheduled to be operational by April 2026.

Next Steps: Further updates will be provided following the consideration of second reading of the Garibaldi Estates Neighbourhood Plan on Tuesday, April 1.

Community Input on Downtown and Tourism-based Parking

Thank you for providing your input on our community survey about parking management. District staff received over 2,600 responses, which showed that many community members are concerned that implementing paid parking Downtown and at tourism-based locations could impact how people access businesses and recreational areas.

Based on this feedback, the District is not moving forward with paid parking in Downtown at this time. We are taking a phased approach, starting with a pilot project at Darrell Bay. This pilot will help us better understand how paid parking could be implemented in a way that supports tourism while protecting local access.

The What We Heard engagement summary report, key findings, complete survey results, and details on the Darrell Bay pilot project can all be found at letstalksquamish.ca/parking-management.

Swimming lessons begin May 5, with registration opening at 8 a.m. on April 15. To ensure fair access, each child may register for only one lesson set this spring. Lesson schedules will be available to view starting April 8. Lesson schedules and registration will be available at squamish.ca/pool.

To make room for more families, we've updated the swim lesson format. This spring, all lessons will follow a once-a-week schedule over eight weeks, offered Monday through Saturday. This pilot approach, which replaces the usual two-day-per-week format, allows us to offer nearly 200 additional spaces during this high-demand period.

Thank you for your continued support. We can't wait to dive back in with you!
