BCIT alumni hone their personal brand at the 2024 AGM and Feature Presentation

On June 12, the BCIT Alumni Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Feature Presentation was held in the Tech Collider—a next-generation learning space and event venue at the BCIT Downtown Campus. More than 200 alumni attendees were inspired by Distinguished Alumni recipient Dr. Candy Ho’s presentation “Your Brand, Your Future: Navigating Career Success Through Personal Branding.”

Sean Poole sails into new role as BCITAA President

The BCIT Alumni Association is proud to announce that Sean Poole, COO, Vancouver Island Ferry Company, was elected as the Association’s newest President at the 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 12. Sean served on the board as Vice President from 2023 to 2024 and Director from 2020 to 2023. Read more.

Spring Convocation 2024 sees over 1,700 graduates cross the stage

In June, more that 1,700 students crossed the stage in five ceremonies, joining our community of 205,000+ passionate BCIT alumni. A special thank you to alumni keynote speakers Michael Atkinson, Bhupinder Hundal, Raja Shergill, and Curtis Hale for generously addressing the class of 2024. Web hobbyist turned tech strategist: meet FWD alumnus Zerlene Fernandez

In her youth, Zerlene Fernandez was fascinated by website design, but hadn’t considered the hobby as a career. After an employer asked her to build a website, Zerlene rediscovered her passion and signed up for the Front-End Web Development program at BCIT. After graduating in 2016, Zerlene went on to work as a Product Stretegist at a digital agency. Read more.

BCIT High School Case Competition paves path for one alum's career in business

Every year, the BCIT School of Business + Media hosts the High School Case Competition in partnership with the Chartered Professional Accountants British Columbia (CPA BC). For alumnus Joshua Luu, this case competition allowed him to envision what a career in business could look like. Read more.

BCIT alumnus Rabie Ali shares his tips for a career in cybersecurity

Rabie Ali’s interest in computing and cybersecurity initially drew him to BCIT — but it was through the proactive pursuit of new knowledge, industry certifications, and networking, that Rabie built his career.

Led by alumnus Ryan Tones, Kiewit partners with BCIT to support Trades and Technology Complex

More than 30 representatives from Kiewit, including several BCIT alumni, gathered to celebrate Kiewit’s generous $250,000 donation supporting the INSPIRE campaign. “Kiewit partners together with like-minded organizations who share our goal: to develop a talented workforce, ready to tackle BC and Canada’s biggest construction and engineering challenges,” said Ryan Tones, SVP, Kiewit Construction Services ULC. Interior Design alum Emily Peterson wins 2024 LIV Design Challenge

Congratulations to Emily Peterson, whose patio design The Arbor took first place in the 2024 LIV Design Challenge. Submitted while Emily was a student, The Arbor is a 188 square-foot patio space with a design that facilitates deep connection with its surroundings, is multifunctional, and intended for all-season use. Read more.
