Mercer Timber - A New Milestone in efficiency

In 2019, Gilbert worked closely with Mercer Timber in Saalburg Ebersdorf, Germany, on the installation of a Gilbert High-Speed Planer. With world-record-breaking speeds, this machine has become one of the fastest in the world!

This year, the Mercer team decided to enhance their operation by adding a Gilbert Splitting Module at the end of the planer. This cutting-edge module will enable them to split wide wood, such as 2x8s, into two 2x4s, all while maintaining the fastest splitting speeds on the market.

Start-up is scheduled for summer 2025!

A Milestone in Innovation

In January, Gilbert's team took great pride in completing the final mechanical assembly of one of the largest planers in the world! This impressive machine is currently on its way to VIDA Bruza in Sweden.

In 2006, VIDA acquired the first Moulder Planer designed by Gilbert for their mill in Vislanda, Sweden. Today, we are grateful to collaborate once again on this second groundbreaking project together.

Equipped with 10 spindles, high-efficiency motors, and 45 automatic servomotor adjustments, this planer is sure to be a remarkable sight in action. We extend our sincere thanks to VIDA for their continued trust and partnership!

--------------- NEW TECHNOLOGY

A Game-Changer for Planing 

In 2024, Gilbert partnered with Sicam to offer a groundbreaking upgrade to our line of Planers. By installing Sicam cameras both before and after the planer, the system can accurately read the lumber sizes coming in and going out of the planer. Using this data, the planer can then make closed-loop automatic adjustments, ensuring the highest quality finish for the lumber.
