Corporate Services

Please check out our Online Services page to see how we can help you. Safety protocols are in place to help keep both visitors and staff safe when visiting our facilities.

Parks, Recreation & Culture

Recreation facilities, the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre and arenas are open and following province-wide COVID-19 safety protocols. Outdoor amenities remain open for use as well, however please continue to practice physical distancing, hand washing and please stay home if not feeling 100% well.

Masks Mandatory

In all public spaces at all City facilities, masks are mandatory. This includes inside a lobby, in a fitness setting, in a change room, on the pool deck and during a class or meeting.

Message from Island Health

There are currently close to 200 people isolating within the Island Health region. Over half of these are in the Central Island.

Please keep following these steps so that people in your communities can continue to run businesses, go to work, go to school and stay well. Thank you for all you have done so far to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and to take care of your friends and neighbours.

✔️Limit social interactions to your immediate household. If you live alone, you must limit social interactions to one or two people who are already in your safe bubble. The fewer people we see, the less chance of exposure.

✔️Masks or a face covering must be worn in all indoor public settings, including all retail stores and restaurants, except when eating or drinking.

✔️Travel should be limited to essential travel only. Wash your hands often – the easiest way to prevent the spread!

✔️Limit time in public places to essential trips for things like groceries and medications.

✔️If you’re feeling sick at all, please stay home, self-isolate and visit or to determine your next steps.

You can keep up to date with what’s going on in our region via our COVID-19 dashboard:

Parks, Recreation & Culture Updates

In response to the Provincial Heath announcement on Dec 2, 2020:

  • all City of Nanaimo recreation facility indoor adult team sports will be paused, until further notice.
  • all fitness related programs that have already been paused, will continue to be on hold until further notice.

Any other decisions will be made after the revised Provincial Health Order, and revised viaSport Guidelines, have been posted. We appreciate your patience and support as we deal with this ever-changing landscape.

Lighting up City Nights

The Parks staff elves from Parks, Receation and Culture have been busy getting Nanaimo ready for the holiday season. They are out bringing some colour and light to our beautiful city!

Be on the look out when you are out and about in the community for these festive lights in and around City parks and facilities.

Take a StoryWalk® with "Snowmen at Night"

With such success over the summer, and thanks to a mild weather, the StoryWalk® program has been extended into the winter! “Snowmen at Night” by author Caralyn Buehnerwill be in City parks throughout December. Follow @cityofnanaimo on Facebook to find out where the story will be set up!

Will Your Commute be Affected?

Check out the City's Current Construction Projects page for up-to-date information on City construction projects. Here are a few projects that may affect your commute:

  • Bowen Road is complete! Thank you for everyone's patience over the past 6 months!

  • Metral Drive, between Turner Road and Godfrey Road, has been reduced to gravel and underground utility work is underway. Traffic on the gravel road will be limited to residents only.
