Aéro Montréal

Aéro Montréal's mission is to mobilize stakeholders in Quebec’s aerospace ecosystem to support its global reach, innovation capacity and growth.

Message from the President

Guillemets

Dear members, dear partners,

Our industry recently enjoyed an important development with historic announcements that kicked off a green and sustainable recovery for the sector. The governments of Québec and Canada granted financial assistance of up to $685 million to Pratt & Whitney Canada, Bell Textron Canada and CAE.

This support was complemented by the launch of the Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI), a federal investment of $250 million over three years, of which nearly $100 million is dedicated to Québec companies. This initiative aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector and help them become greener, more innovative and more productive. The environment, cybersecurity, and diversity and inclusion will be central to the industry’s recovery.

As a reminder, here are the highlights of the announcement:

  • Financial assistance of up to $685 million to Pratt & Whitney Canada, Bell Textron Canada and CAE.
  • The Government of Québec is providing $245.5 million from the Economic Development Fund through Investissement Québec
  • The Government of Canada is providing $439.8 million through the Strategic Innovation Fund.
  • This funding will support projects representing investments of $2 billion across the country, including nearly $1.6 billion in Québec.
  • These stimulating projects will create more than 1,000 jobs in the Québec aerospace sector.
  • This support will also make it possible to offer cooperative internships to more than 6,200 students.

Aéro Montréal would like to salute the commitment of the governments and companies in the cluster, who are taking the bold step of accelerating the Québec aerospace industry’s green shift. These recent announcements echo, among other things, the numerous recommendations made by the Alliance for the Aerospace Recovery, a strategic committee under the direction of Aéro Montréal’s Board of Directors. After more than a year of work and representation, we are delighted that these recommendations, which came from the players in the Québec aerospace industry, have been implemented. Aéro Montréal remains at the disposal of SMEs that would like more information about the ARRI program.

The green and sustainable recovery is underway. Let’s continue our efforts to make Québec a leader in the aerospace industry of tomorrow.

Happy summer to all,

SUZANNE M. BENOÎT, President of Aéro Montréal

Quebec procurement

Promoting Québec procurement

Investissement Québec recently unveiled its Soutien à l'approvisionnement québécois (Support for Québec procurement) program. This initiative is part of a positive and sustainable movement promoting Québec procurement and its main objective is to contribute to a more prosperous, resilient and autonomous Québec economy.

This initiative encourages companies to take advantage of the strategic value of sourcing from local suppliers or repatriating their production from abroad to Québec.

Buying from Québec pays off, is strategic and simple. It acts as a catalyst for productivity, innovation, competitiveness, sustainable development and exports.

Do you know about Innovative Solutions Canada?

Innovative Solutions Canada

Modelled on the US SBIR program and launched in late 2017, Innovative Solutions Canada (ISC) enables the Government of Canada to use its research and development procurement spending to support the growth and expansion of SMEs.

ISC supports the development of new ideas and their inclusion in Government of Canada programs. I does so by helping innovative Canadian SMEs solve pressing challenges by developing their early-stage research and development and facilitating the operational testing of their late-stage research and development.

Objectives

  • To encourage the increased use of Canadian SME innovations within the Government of Canada and Canada;
  • To help innovative Canadian SMEs grow, develop and export through the successful commercialization of their research and development more quickly than would otherwise be the case;
  • To contribute to building a more inclusive Canadian economy through increased participation of under-represented groups (i.e. women, First Nations peoples, youth and people with disabilities) in Government of Canada procurement;
  • To advance Government of Canada priorities and provide Government of Canada organizations with access to new capabilities that can support improved service to Canadian citizens and companies.
