Public Meeting Scheduled for Long-Term Care & Housing Applications

The Town is pleased to share information regarding a proposed purpose-built rental and workforce housing development in Craigleith near the future long-term care home and Town fire hall property on Grey Road 19.

MacPherson Home Builders has submitted a Zoning By-law Amendment application to permit a proposed 112-unit purpose-built rental housing development within the existing lands of the Altitude subdivision. The application is being advanced alongside a separate Zoning By-law Amendment application submitted on behalf of peopleCare Communities to permit the new 192-bed long-term care home on adjacent Town-owned lands.

While separate, the applications are being considered concurrently to support coordinated planning and integration between the developments.

Residents are invited to learn more and provide comments at a Public Meeting on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will include the MacPherson Home Builders and peopleCare Communities applications, as well as a proposed telecommunications tower application for the future fire hall property.

Is an ARU for You?

Building an Additional Residential Unit (ARU) in the Town of The Blue Mountains is an increasingly accessible option for homeowners looking to create additional living space or generate rental income. The Town encourages ARUs as one way to provide more housing options while maintaining the character of established neighbourhoods.

Planning and Building Services staff are available to support homeowners through the process with clear guidelines and pre-consultation meetings to discuss zoning, design, and permit requirements. In many cases, ARUs can be built within an existing property footprint, helping to reduce major construction and costs.

With responsive staff, supportive policies and clear regulations, an ARU can be a practical way to enhance a property while contributing to additional housing options in the community. Homeowners interested in building an ARU are encouraged to contact the Building Division to discuss their project and next steps.
