Dear Students and Partners,

Greetings from Columbia College! We hope you and your family are healthy and safe during these unprecedented times. We would like to provide you with a few updates to prepare you for the Winter 2021 semester:

Winter 2021 Program Delivery

Columbia College has been working closely with the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, on how we approach our future semesters due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the safety of students and staff in mind, the Winter 2021 semester will be delivered mostly online with select in-person delivery.

As it stands today and subject to Ministry direction, our High School students will continue to engage in in-person delivery, and our University Transfer and Associate Degree students will continue to study online, with the exception of select Chemistry labs (CHEM 123, 210, 220), which will be in-person.

Suspension of English Language and Culture (ELC) Program and Proof of English Proficiency

Effective January 2021, the ELC Program at Columbia College will be suspended until further notice. Starting Winter 2021 semester, English 094, 095 and 096 courses (IELTS below 5.0) will not be offered. The college is also asking all students to meet the college's English language requirements before receiving the Official Letter of Acceptance.

IRCC Update on Post-Graduate Work Permit

On September 17, Canadian Immigration and Citizenship announced that time spent studying online outside of Canada now counts towards the length of a Post-Graduation Work Permit starting from when you apply for a Study Permit. Before, only time spent studying online after being approved for a Study Permit counted.

To qualify for a PGWP, your application will still need to be approved and, for students in programs that are 12 months or longer, you will need to complete 50% or more of your program in Canada.
