On behalf of the Carleton University School of Social Work’s (CUSSW) Black History Committee, we would like to cordially invite members of the Ottawa community and beyond to our annual Black History celebration entitled Black History is Every Month!

On Saturday, March 6th from 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm, viewers can take part in this year’s Black History event through a virtual experience that will foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation through critical discussions, storytelling and performances. The event will highlight African diasporic accomplishments and culture, as well as draw attention to the challenges, strengths and resilience of Black communities in Canada. In particular, there will be a focus on the importance and value of celebrating Black History every day.

The Diversity and Equity Committee (DEC) Conversation Series, School of Social Work, Commemorates African Heritage Month with the first in our two-part panel discussion and interactive comversations on 'Teaching while Black.' The panel discussion hopes to explore, teaching in the academy: its meaning, challenges, significant moments, and effects as expressed by the professor of African Descent. The event is scheduled for 5:30pm on ​​Wednesday, February 24, 2021.​
