Le Mi’kmaq Epekwitnewaq Kapmntemuow et Parcs Canada signe une entente de gestion conjointe

1er octobre 2024 

Aujourd’hui, la chef Darlene Bernard, de la Première Nation de Lennox Island, le chef Junior Gould, de la Première Nation d’Abegweit, l’honorable Steven Guilbeault, ministre de l’Environnement et du Changement climatique et ministre responsable de Parcs Canada, et l’honorable Gary Anandasangaree, ministre des Relations Couronne-Autochtones, ont annoncé la signature d’une entente de gestion conjointe entre le Mi’kmaq Epekwitnewaq Kapmntemuow et le gouvernement du Canada.

Nous sommes accueillis aux bureaux du conseil de bande de la nation innue dans la réserve de Sheshatshiu, près de Goose Bay, au Labrador. Les portes s’ouvrent sur des traces de caribou peintes au sol qui nous guident dans des bureaux animés.

La Cour supérieure oblige Québec à consulter les Autochtones

Dans une décision rendue le 18 octobre, la Cour supérieure du Québec a donné raison aux Anishnabeg de Lac-Barrière et oblige le gouvernement du Québec à consulter les Autochtones quant aux claims miniers existants et tous ceux à venir. Une décision qui fait jurispru dence.

Pas de transferts fédéraux sans stratégie de protection du caribou au Québec

Un accord pour la nature permettant de transférer jusqu'à 650 millions de dollars du fédéral est bel et bien sur la table pour le Québec, réitère Ottawa. Une telle entente est cependant impensable sans une stratégie adéquate de protection de l'habitat du caribou forestier. Le gouvernement Legault n'a toutefois pas l'intention de négocier et réclame des « transferts sans conditions ».
