Committee Member, Provincial Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment
Do you have experience supporting an adult at end of life in British Columbia? Do you have experience making decisions with, or on behalf of a loved one about critical health care treatments in a hospital setting? The Ministry of Health is seeking a patient and/or family caregiver to participate on a provincial government advisory committee that will look at how a patient’s goals of care are documented on a Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment form and how this documentation guides medical treatment provided in an emergency situation.

External Opportunities

Working Group, Pre-habilitation Prior to Major Oncology Surgery
The Pre-habilitation Prior to Major Oncology Surgery working group will be a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anesthesiologist, GPs, endocrinologists, dieticians and the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery coordinators. If you have had major abdominal/oncology surgery at Vancouver General Hospital or are a family member of someone who has had this type of surgery, then please consider this opportunity to bring patient family voice to planning how best to support patients prior to surgery. The team will be seeking input on teaching materials to help patients, mechanisms for teaching and support, and what models could work best for referral processes and result in optimizing patient’s health prior to surgery in order to improve their outcomes.

Working Group, Vancouver General Hospital Pre-Admission Clinic Relocation
The Pre-Admission Clinic Relocation working group is made up of anesthesiologists, surgical leadership, pre-admission clinic leadership, O.R. booking leadership, communications as well as front-line providers from the pre-admission clinic. The team would like to expand their services to include a “pre-hab” model whereby patients can get education/treatment well in advance of their surgical date in order to optimize their post surgical recovery. Ideally, candidates would have previously visited a pre-admission clinic as a patient or family member.

Are you curious about research? If so, join the BC SUPPORT Unit Vancouver Island Centre’s upcoming information session designed to help non-researchers understand the basics. The goal of this session, which is taking place on September 28, is to introduce participants to the broad landscape of health research in Canada. Together we will cover a wide range of topics!
