FRONT COMMUN TABLES ITS DEMANDS

On the day the Front commun formed by the CSN, CSQ, FTQ and APTS submitted its demands, workers from the health, social services, education and higher education systems gathered near the National Assembly for a march through the streets of Old Québec. They wanted to send the government a clear message: We are speaking with one voice to demand working conditions and salaries commensurate with the services we provide to the public.

At the same time, the Front commun’s spokespersons were explaining the unions’ demands to Treasury Board officials.

The more than 420,000 workers represented by the Front commun are demanding wage increases and permanent protection against inflation to guarantee maintenance of their purchasing power.

This October 28, 2022, the Front commun submits its demands to the Secrétariat du Conseil du trésor

Specifically, the wage demands are:

  • For 2023: a $1001 per week increase for all workers OR application of a permanent annual CPI-based cost-of-living adjustment mechanism plus 2%, whichever is greater

  • For 2024: application of a permanent annual CPI-based cost-of-living adjustment mechanism plus a 3% increase

  • For 2025: application of a permanent annual CPI-based cost-of-living adjustment mechanism plus a 4% increase

In addition to the wage demands, the Front commun is making demands in other areas, including:

  • retirement

  • parental rights

  • regional disparities

  • group insurance

It’s high time for public service workers to see significant improvements to their working conditions. The government must realize this and do something. The ball is in their court.
