Stoney Nakoda Nation and Canadian Mountain Network have released a 14-minute film about using Indigenous cultural monitoring to enhance the reintroduction of plains bison to the landscape. This Indigenous-led research study included collaborations between the Stoney project lead William (Bill) Snow, Parks Canada, UBC Studios, Mount Royal University, and IRES's Don Carruthers Den Hoed.

Participants will hear from a panel of experts about the real-world applications of their research on the challenges facing community repair cafés, local and international policy models for a circular economy, and built-to-fail bicycles & e-bikes, including IRES's PhD student Neha Sharma-Mascarenhas

Truth and Reconciliation Workshop | UBC Botanical Garden

The goal of this 3 hour workshop is to increase the collective capacity of UBC Science to understand the lived experiences of Indigenous Peoples as well as to learn about colonial Canadian narratives that impact Indigenous communities.

Instructor Brad Marsden from the Gitksan Nation, British Columbia, creates space for groups to learn, listen, understand and discuss the impact of residential schools and colonization.

  • Thursday, October 26. 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Applications for UBC's delegation at COP28 are now open

The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) summit is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirate from November 30 to December 12, 2023.

Each year UBC receives a limited number of observer badges for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (UNFCCC COP) negotiation space, known as the Blue Zone.

Call for Applications: Research EXperience (REX) 

This 6 month program pairs student mentees with post-doc and graduate student mentors to design a theoretical research project. At the end of the program, the undergraduate students present their finished projects at the Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference (MURC), one of the largest undergraduate research conferences in BC.

External Events

ʔəm̓i ce:p xʷiwəl is a festival celebration of Indigenous culture and community presented by the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) -- on whose territory the Chan Centre and UBC are located. The 2023 festival will be hosted by Musqueam community members, and will feature Musqueam artists, singers and dancers woven throughout the programming.
