CONCERTS IN THE PARK

Harewood Area Smoke Testing

Did You Know? The City of Nanaimo uses smoke to test the sewer system for leaks, including leaks where ground or storm water may enter the system. The smoke itself is non-toxic and odourless and offers a clean way for Public Works crews to find weaknesses in the system that may need repair. No one wants a leaky pipe – especially these pipes! During testing, smoke may be seen coming from roof vents, building foundations, or manhole covers. Smoke will not enter your home unless you have faulty plumbing, venting or dry water traps (P-traps). Testing this month is taking place throughout Harewood. Watch for the signs!

Nanaimo Recycles Trunk Sale

The sales are for vendors to sell their unwanted items from the trunk of their car to bargain hunters. These free reuse events aim to give unwanted household items a longer lease on life and to reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill.

This is the second event this summer and will be held on August 24 at the Vancouver Island University in Lot L from 9:00am - 2:00pm.

Nanaimo 150: Did you know?

You can find many of the shops and businesses built around 1874 still standing today including A. R. Johnston Grocers built in 1898. You may now know it as the building that houses Flying Fish, but what you may not know is it used to back onto the harbour before that part of the harbour was filled in.
