Episcopal Election 2026

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, Archbishop Shane Parker was recently elected to the office of Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada. We congratulate him and look forward to his leadership of our national church. In order to take on this new office, however, he will soon be stepping down as our diocesan bishop. This leaves us in a period of transition, as we prepare to choose a new bishop to lead our diocese.

The Canons and Bylaws of our diocese lay out the process for selecting a new bishop, and we have already begun implementing their guidelines. We will be communicating the particulars of this selection process soon, including a timeline for the election, details on the nomination process, and information on voting procedures.

In the meantime, we have produced a document which we hope will answer some questions you may have about Bishop Shane’s election as Primate. It also contains some information about how our diocese will operate while we await the selection of a new diocesan bishop. You can find the document here.

As Secretaries of Synod, the Canons and Bylaws of our diocese give us an important role in overseeing the administration of the election process. So, please feel free to contact us if you have questions about this or any other aspect of the upcoming Electoral Synod.

Finally, please remember to hold Archbishop Shane, the national church, and our own diocese in your prayers. We are always in need of the Holy Spirit’s guidance, but that need is particularly great in times of transition. May God bless us all as we seek to follow where the Spirit leads.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Canon Stephen Silverthorne & Margaret Porter
