PHASE 3 Launch

The planning team is extending a heart-filled thank you to everyone who took the time to provide fantastic feedback during the first two phases of REIMAGINE NANAIMO. All the input collected was used to create a draft plan. Starting February 28, you will have a chance to review and comment on the draft plan. This will be the last opportunity for you - the community - to shape YOUR plan for the next 25 years! Once all the input during this phase is collected, a final plan will be presented to Council. Visit the project page to review the Phase I and Phase II outcomes and prepare for the final phase.

REIMAGINE NANAIMO

Help Reduce Cart Contamination

Nanaimo 𝙒𝙀 𝙉𝙀𝙀𝘿 𝙔𝙊𝙐𝙍 𝙃𝙀𝙇𝙋 reducing our blue cart contamination rate! We are currently sitting at a 13% contamination rate and in order to effectively recycle our blue cart material and meet our contract requirements, the rate needs to drop below 3%.

Some of these items are dangerous to workers, some are excluded from the BC Recycling Regulations and some cause operational issues. We understand it can be a bit confusing, but the What Goes Where tool can be of assistance when you just aren't sure what to do with an item. You can download the Nanaimo Recycles App for that tool, or find it on the City's website. If you would like to learn more please visit Recycle BC's website

Will Your Commute Be Affected This Week?

Up-to-date information on City construction projects:

  • Ninth Street is closed between Bruce Avenue and Plecas Crescent. Detours will be in place and commuters are asked to plan their travel accordingly and account for extra time when navigating the area.
  • Metral Drive is still an active construction site, so please expect delays and account for extra time when navigating the area. Enterprise Way to Turner Road is now LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY. The road will be narrow while crews prepare to install curbs on both sides of the road, so please detour on Highway 19a. If you live in the area or are visiting a business, drive slowly and respect the construction zone and workers.
  • Watermain upgrades are underway on Laguna Way east of the intersection with Lost Lake Road. Commuters can expect minor delays.
