Warmest congratulations to the BMS Class of 2022 Graduates!

Congratulations on the wonderful accomplishments of our BMS Graduates! 

Along with UBC’s Graduation Ceremony on May 25, 2022 at 1:30 pm, we will be hosting a separate BMS Graduation Reception at the Bralorne Reading Room (School of Information, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre) on May 25th at 4 pm to celebrate our graduating students.

Welcome, the BMS Summer 2022 Communications Assistant!

Si Ming is joining us as the Communications Assistant as part of the UBC Work Learn Program for the Summer 2022 term. Si Ming is a 2nd year student studying Natural Resources Conservation at the Faculty of Forestry, with a specific interest in digital media and a passion for photography and cinematography.

Protean Lattice: UBC Master of Fine Arts Exhibition 2022

Visit this exhibition of work by the 2022 graduates of the Master of Fine Arts program. This program in the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory is limited each year to a small group of four to six artists, who over the two years foster different sensibilities developed within an intimate and discursive working environment.

In this in-person drop-in session, attendees will join Emerging Media Lab’s faculty and student workers for live demos and Q&A with our project teams. HAUNTINGS - Queer Arts Festival

The Pride in Art Society (PiA) presents the Queer Arts Festival (QAF), an annual artist-run, multi-disciplinary festival celebrating queer art and artists.

This year, QAF celebrates their 15th year with Hauntings, a three-week profound and playful exploration of Queer existence throughout time & space - featuring a dynamic suite of visual art, performance, music, and literary events.

Xicanx: Dreamers + Changemakers
May 12, 2022 - January 1, 2023

The Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at UBC and The Americas Research Network (ARENET) will be displaying an exhibition, Xicanx: Dreamers + Changemakers / Soñadores + creadores del cambio, from May 12, 2022, to January 1, 2023.

The exhibition will showcase for the first time in Canada the rich traditions of 33 Xicanx artists, whose art practices draw on their Mexican-American heritage and generations of activism that began as part of El Movimiento, the Chicano civil rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s in the U.S. The exhibition is a celebration of the many Xicanx artists who have and continue to combine art and activism in the vital, ongoing fight for social justice for all.

Interactive Fund
Deadline: May 26, 2022

A partnership between Creative BC and the BC Arts Council, the Interactive Fund supports the creation of high quality, original interactive digital media projects that support diversity in artistic expression, demonstrate clear connections between art and technology, and provide opportunities for access, dissemination, and engagement with audiences and within the BC arts and culture sector. Up to $100,000 is available to individuals, companies or not for profit societies based in BC to support projects at all different phases, including early development, prototyping and project completion.

We are here to support you - offered by Aspiria, the UBC Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a free, 24/7 wellness resource for students. Services include personal counselling, life coaching, group programs and more based on your needs.

Counselling Services

Book an appointment with a Wellness Advisor. Wellness Advisors are registered clinical counsellors who'll meet with students and listen to your needs and connect you with resources to best help you reach your goals. This could include self-directed resources, workshops and coaching, group therapy, or individual therapy.

Student Health Service offers a wide range of health assessments and treatments provided by doctors, nurse practitioners, and nurses.

Student Health Services appointments are being offered to students within British Columbia (BC), primarily by phone and video during this time. In-person services are available when needed.

Helping a friend 

Recognize signs that your friend may need support.
Being able to recognize when your friend is struggling with something serious and when to offer help is important.

You may notice your friend's behaviour, feelings, or thoughts change drastically or very subtly. If you notice changes in your friend, it may be time to start a conversation with them.
