The City of Saskatoon is changing technology in order to improve service levels.

Why are we looking at change?

Keeping in sight our goal to become a national leader in the delivery of Building and Development Permits, we are focusing on changes to our processes and technology. This will streamline review practices, establish industry best practices, and connect technology to our staff, citizens, and customers, with the ultimate goal to increase the level of satisfaction our citizens and customers have with our service.

Two initiatives are currently underway to support our goal - both will significantly benefit our clients by reducing the turnaround time for our customers while adding convenience and efficiencies.

Electronic Plan Review

Objective: To replace the linear permit application review process with a paperless concurrent review process. This improvement will reduce permit turnaround time by up to 50 per cent for the typical commercial permit application.

Where we are at: A Request for Proposals has been posted to the SaskTender website. Over the next few weeks, we will evaluate submissions received.

Next steps: Through the RFP process find the best possible vendor to create a solution to meet our goals.

Online Submission of Permit Applications

Objective: To improve the application process with an online portal with clearly defined submission requirements for each project type, tracking and status capabilities, as well as the ability to accept online payment.

Where we are at: A Project Team has been established to review online submission tools that will facilitate the use of industry best practices, incorporate regulatory requirements and provide online functionality to better serve our customer needs.

Stay tuned for a further update in next month’s newsletter.
