En-tête Aéro Montréal

Aéro Montréal’s mission is to mobilize stakeholders in Québec’s aerospace ecosystem to support its global reach, innovation capacity and growth

Message from the President

Guillemets

Dear members, dear partners,

The end of the year is approaching and we are pleased to offer you an historic event of the cluster, in the company of your peers: the Gilles-Demers Awards Gala.

For this new edition, we promise you an unforgettable evening at the Four Seasons Hotel Montréal, featuring the restaurant of renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson.

Held on Friday, December 10, this gala evening will be an opportunity to celebrate the excellence of Québec’s aerospace SMEs. 17 companies are competing; a record number of applications! You will learn about companies that have excelled through their ability to create wealth and promote Québec expertise. We will also highlight their capacity for innovation or international expansion.

Air Canada is pleased to offer you a chance to win a pair of round-trip BUSINESS CLASS tickets to one of Air Canada's European destinations as the evening's door prize! (Value between $12,000 and $20,000 depending on the destination).

Join me for an evening featuring 1945 The Band (Paul Chacra) as we underscore the boldness and creativity of our companies and close 2021 by celebrating with the main players in the sector.

Registration is open and the number of places is limited, so don't wait any longer to register!

I hope to see you there in large numbers.

SUZANNE M. BENOÎT, President of Aéro Montréal

Abipa Canada merges with Groupe ARM

Abipa Canada merges with Groupe ARM

Smaller suppliers in the aerospace sector are gaining in size to better serve their customers. This is the observation that led Abipa Canada, a company from Boisbriand in the Laurentians, to merge with the French company Groupe ARM.

“The aeronautics ecosystem is global and the major OEMs have sites all over the world,” explains Jean Blondin, who will continue to act as President and CEO of the new entity, which will be called Abipa International.

“When you are small, a small SME, I think you are very good. But you have limitations in what you can do,” he adds.

Abipa International, whose head office will remain in Boisbriand, will now have 400 employees spread over six sites in Canada, France and Morocco. Its sales exceed $100 million, according to the company.

Airbus

Airbus foresees demand for 39,000 new passenger & freighter aircraft by 2040

In the next 20 years, Airbus forecasts demand for air transport to progressively shift from fleet growth to the accelerated retirement of older, less fuel-efficient aircraft, resulting in a need for some 39,000 new-build passenger and freighter aircraft, 15,250 of these for replacement.

As a consequence, by 2040 the vast majority of commercial aircraft in operation will be of the latest generation, up from some 13% today, considerably improving the CO2 efficiency of the world’s commercial aircraft fleets. The economic benefits of aviation extend beyond the sector, contributing around 4% to annual global GDP and sustaining some 90 million jobs worldwide.

Luxia Innovation

Luxia Innovation will soon open a new plant in Mobile (Alabama), but the one in Montréal (Québec) is already stunning. In July, the company moved into a new football field-sized facility in the Saint-Michel district of Montréal.

As soon as you enter, you are struck by the bright light of day in the vast, long space, where a dozen cutting tables, each about 25 metres long, are arranged.

Kneeling on one of them, an employee cuts indentations around a cutting template with a retractable blade in a long, soft carpet, which will soon add a muted touch to the floor of a Bombardier Global 7500.

Further on, carpets for the Airbus A220 are cut with millimetre precision on two automated conveyorized cutting tables, the size of eight ping-pong tables.
