For the second year in a row, Rhiannon Paterson has been selected to participate in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) Female Apprentice Coach Program. This program, funded by Sport Canada, is designed to support female student-athletes who demonstrate the desire and skills for coaching by providing them opportunities to grow through the coaching experience in CCAA varsity sports.

Rhiannon will continue to be mentored by Avalanche women's coach Bryan Fraser.  Congratulations Rhiannon.

Student Kudos for our MAST Program

Some of our Mountain Adventure Skills Training students spoke with the Fernie Fix about some of their highlights from the program. Comments included:

  • "The most incredible part of this program is having the chance to learn hands-on from current and well-seasoned professionals"

  • "I believe the most important part of the MAST program is advancing communication, leadership, and teamwork skills to develop mental strength. These factors are essential for our life."

  • "Getting to put our skills and knowledge from the classroom and field days together made Ski Tour 2 the ultimate course."

See the full comments from these and other students on the Fernie Fix website (click on Read more). Thank you to the Fernie Fix for their continuing support of our MAST program.

Making us #SmallCollegeProud

We often talk about the personalized service we provide to our students but what does that really look like? Recently Alicia reached out to our President’s Office to share her story:

“I wanted to give a shoutout to David Quinn, Student and Enrolment Services Officer. I had requested a transcript a couple weeks ago, but I made a mistake on the request, so I had to redo it today. The deadline is tomorrow, and David was able to send it via email for me so I could reach my deadline. David went above and beyond to ensure my transcript arrived on time. As someone that struggles with anxiety, I sincerely appreciate David taking the time to help me reach my deadline and eliminate the stress. Thank you, David!

We echo her sentiment. Thank you, Dave.

Congratulations, Caley

When English instructor Caley Ehnes isn’t sharing her love of literature with her students, she’s often busy researching and publishing. Most recently, her chapter on the 19th-century British literary magazine was published as part of the Routledge Companion to the British and North American Literary Magazine. The Companion provides a survey of the literary magazine from its earliest days to current times. Inclusion in the most recent volume is quite an honour.

I find that keeping up with my practice as a researcher and writer makes me a better teacher of research and writing,” Caley said. “Additionally, one of the reasons I accepted this project was that I think companions such as this are great resources for undergraduate students, and I was excited to contribute to a resource that could potentially be used by the students I teach.

Prabhmani Goraya
Accounting diploma/current BBA student

For the love of numbers

It was in her high school accounting class in her native India where Prabhmani Goraya first discovered her love for numbers, data, and being challenged in her work.

Her passionate pursuit of an accounting career brought her to Canada, and to College of the Rockies where she completed the Accounting diploma program.

Now employed as a Junior Accountant, she is enrolled in the College's Bachelor of Business Administration in Sustainable Business Practices with the hope of eventually becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant. We have no doubt she'll succeed.
