OCTOBER 27, 2020

Hello

There is a Greek proverb that says: "A society grows when old people plant trees in whose shade they will never sit".

The Scriptures provide many references about the importance of being elders for the generation coming along behind us.

The investing of our lives into activities of caring and mentoring emerging generations will result in a legacy of continuing value and comfort for them after we are gone.

This newsletter features several articles related to grandparenting. For those who are not grandparents, we hope that you will benefit from the content as there are opportunities for all of us to be connected with children and younger generations through our families and friends.

CHAT will be offering a webinar in 2021 as a resource for those of us wanting to learn more about ways we can be more helpful and thoughtful in sharing our lives with our children's and grandchildren's generations.

May we be encouraged by the psalmist's recognition that lives committed to living faithfully into the later years of life are like a healthy tree that will be of mutual benefit to ourselves and future generations.

"They will still bear fruit, in old age they stay fresh and green" (Psalm 92:14)

A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY AS GRANDPA
by Carson Pue

Grandpa: the best title I have ever had.

Jesus has regard for the weakest and most vulnerable among us. The Old Testament often speaks of the importance of raising children to love and worship God. Parents are told that children are a heritage from the Lord, and children are told to obey their parents’ instructions. But it’s in the Gospels that we discover God’s soft spot for children. He’s gentle and kind with them and passionate about protecting them from harm. Jesus also used them as an example to us to teach kingdom principles and about the spiritual journey.

I have seven grandchildren ranging in age from a granddaughter at one year to my oldest grandson, who is thirteen. My grands have been a significant part of my spiritual journey. I continue to learn so much from them and share seven ways my grandchildren are shaping and strengthening my relationship with God.

GRANDPARENTING RELATIONSHIPS: CELEBRATING THE JOY AND CONNECTION BETWEEN GENERATIONS

by Sandi Smoker

We are living longer than our own grandparents these days, thanks to technological advancement. Statistics confirm we are generally healthier too.
