Arts & Crafts Walk Returns Saturday, July 6

The Blue Mountains Arts & Crafts Walk returns this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m! Take a stroll between Thornbury and Clarksburg and discover the incredible works of local artists, artisans and crafters set up along Bruce and Marsh Street.

This one-day, self-guided tour will let you experience the arts and culture scene of The Blue Mountains and surrounding areas. You can expect to see a wide range of handmade crafts, artwork, and specialty items such as paintings, pottery, jewelry, textiles, woodworking, glasswork and sculptures, and photography - make sure you bring a bag!

A free shuttle is available to take attendees from Thornbury to Clarksburg.

Road Surface Treatment Underway

The Town of The Blue Mountains has begun surface treatment road work on various rural and urban roads throughout the municipality. Partial lane closures will be in effect during construction.

Road surface treatment will occur on:

  1. Pretty River Road

  2. 10th Line between Grey Road 13 and 9th Sideroad

  3. 10th Line between Russell Street and 30th Sideroad

  4. 30th Sideroad between 10th Line and The Blue Mountains - Meaford Townline

  5. The Blue Mountains - Meaford Townline between Highway 26 and 30th Sideroad

  6. 33rd Sideroad between Duncan Street and The Blue Mountains - Meaford Townline

A full map of locations is available on the Town's website. Residents are asked to reduce speed on roads that have been recently treated to help lessen the disturbance of the roadway.

Youth Climate Action Fund Workshop

The Youth Climate Action Fund is now accepting applications. Microgrants worth between $1,500 and $6,000 are available to fund youth-led climate initiatives

An informational webinar was hosted on July 26, with a recording now available on the Town's website.

A free grant writing workshop is being held at Town Hall on Thursday, July 4, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for youth and youth-supporting organizations to help those interested develop their applications for the Youth Climate Action Fund. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Brian Harkness named Senior of the Year

The Town is pleased to announce that local resident Brian Harkness has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Province of Ontario Senior of the Year Award for the Town of The Blue Mountains.

Brian received the award from Mayor Andrea Matrosovs and Council at the June 24 Council Meeting.

“Brian is a doer in our community and all of Council is proud to select him as our Town of The Blue Mountains Senior of the Year," said Mayor Andrea Matrosovs. "We want to thank him for everything he does.”

Wastewater Treatment Expansion Continues

Progress continues on the Thornbury Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion project. Work on the new aeration tank and clarifier is moving along well, and upgrades are underway on the existing clarifiers, Ultraviolet Disinfection Building and Administration Building.

Fire Department Encourages Local Youth to Apply to Camp Molly

The Blue Mountains Fire Department is encouraging youth to apply to Camp Molly, a four-day camp in Hanover, Ontario, this October. The camp is for self-identified female and non-binary individuals aged 15 to 18 and offers an inside look at a career in fire and emergency services.

Registration is now open for the camp, which was started to show young females that a career in the fire service is a viable and rewarding option.

The Blue Mountains Fire Department is proud to support Camp Molly and encourages local youth to register.
